Will Osula is on cloud nine, but his biggest Newcastle United challenge is now here

Newcastle United owe their win over Fulham on Saturday to Will Osula.

While Bruno Guimaraes grabbed the plaudits by providing the finishing touch, it was a winning goal made possible by Will Osula.

Having been brought on to replace Nick Woltemade, Eddie Howe tasked Osula with propelling Newcastle United towards victory. He did just that, with his penetrating run and shot resulting in Bruno scoring the winner.

Osula did tremendously well, as he continues to show major improvement in a black and white shirt.

With goals against Liverpool and Bradford City and an assist in the Champions League, the 22-year-old is proving to be much more impactful for the Magpies.

It is great to see him doing so well, but now Osula could be braced for the biggest challenge of his Newcastle United career to date.

Will Osula must start for Newcastle United against Spurs in the Carabao Cup

Having impressed as a substitute in the Premier League and as a starter against lower league opposition, now is the time for Osula to combine the two.

He should hopefully get that opportunity on Wednesday night, with Osula potentially poised to start for Newcastle United against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.

It would be a huge opportunity for the £10million man, whose only start against a Premier League side for Newcastle came against Leeds United earlier this season. Osula was poor at Elland Road, raising questions over his readiness to perform at the top level.

But he has bounced back since that disappointment, and deserves a chance to show what he can do against a side as good as Spurs as a starter rather than a substitute.

Newcastle United need to rest Nick Woltemade

As well as being a chance to give Osula a start, the Carabao Cup clash with Spurs is also an opportunity to rest Nick Woltemade.

When he joined the club and became Newcastle’s most expensive signing, the plan was to ease him into the fold. However, that has not been possible because of Yoane Wissa’s injury.

The 23-year-old has had to play a lot more than anticipated, and could do with a rest when Thomas Frank’s side arrive at St James’ Park on Wednesday night.

With two more Premier League games and a Champions League clash with Athletic Club before the next international break, Eddie Howe needs to take this opportunity to give his leading scorer a break.

That should create an opening for Osula, who deserves to start against Spurs following his impact in the win over Fulham.
