The January transfer window has only just closed, yet one of Newcastle United’s Premier League rivals are already making moves ahead of next season.
While it remains unclear who will be pulling the strings behind the scenes at St James’ Park amid Dan Ashworth’s potential move to Manchester United, Brentford are not hanging about.
They have just welcomed Ivan Toney back from suspension, and he has been in fine form since his comeback. The 27-year-old already has three goals to his name this season from just four appearances.
He has picked up where he left off, which will only intensify speculation that he is going to leave Brentford this summer.
And the Bees are already prepared for that eventuality.
Brentford announce deal to sign Ivan Toney replacement
On Wednesday night, Brentford announced a future signing.
They confirmed that they have agreed a deal with Club Brugge to sign Igor Thiago. It has been reported that it is a club record deal that will cost them £30million.
Thiago is a 22-year-old forward who is enjoying a spectacular season. He has scored 26 goals in 40 appearances for Club Brugge so far, while he also has four assists.
30 goal contributions in 40 appearances is an incredible tally, and one that Brentford will hope he can replicate in the Premier League next season.

Good news for Newcastle United and other Toney suitors
Thomas Frank’s side are clearly planning ahead, and already have their Toney replacement lined up before he has even secured an exit.
They will be big boots to fill, but Brentford will be pleased to have got this done well in advance.
Thiago’s arrival will open the door for Toney to depart in the summer, which could be good news for Newcastle United.
The Magpies are going to be in the market for a new forward when the summer transfer window opens, and it has been claimed that they are interested in Toney.
The England international is a player who Newcastle’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson really likes, and it will be interesting to see if he makes a move to try and tempt Toney back to Tyneside.
He will face a lot of competition, and it is difficult to envision Toney returning to Newcastle. But a move away from Brentford feels almost certain, and even more so now that the Bees are bringing in Thiago.
