Newcastle United will be hoping to make it three wins on the bounce against Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies have navigated a treacherous run of fixtures superbly with Newcastle beating Chelsea to book a spot in the last eight of the Carabao Cup before defeating Premier League title-chasers Arsenal.

However, one final tough fixture awaits before the November international break with Newcastle set to travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Forest have been the surprise package of the Premier League so far this season after climbing up to third place after 10 games played.

A tough afternoon awaits Eddie Howe‘s side in a game that will also involve some emotional reunions.

Newcastle set to face Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood

Two former Newcastle players have frustratingly been the backbone of Forest’s superb run this season.

Chris Wood completed a £15m move to Forest in 2023 after only scoring five goals in 39 appearances for Newcastle.

At Forest, he has already scored eight goals in 10 Premier League matches this season. For added context, Newcastle have only scored 10 in 10 as a team.

Newcastle will have to try and keep their former striker quiet on Sunday afternoon, but they will also have their hands full with Elliot Anderson.

Anderson came through the academy at Newcastle but was sold to Forest this summer for £35m. Newcastle were forced to sell due to Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Anderson has already rubbed salt in Newcastle’s wounds by putting on some “excellent” displays this season and he was recently named in Team of the Week.

Elliot Anderson will have a point to prove vs Newcastle

Anderson is celebrating his 22nd birthday on Tuesday and will no doubt want to cap off his birthday week with a win against his boyhood club.

Anderson admitted that leaving Newcastle was “tough” and was “the club’s decision” rather than his own. He will want to remind Newcastle just how good he is at the City Ground this weekend.

Howe has also made it clear that he really didn’t want to part ways with Anderson this summer. Howe claims Anderson is one of two “elite” players to come from Newcastle’s academy.

The decision was ultimately taken out of Howe’s hands with Newcastle on the brink of facing a points deduction if they failed to raise funds in the transfer window.

It is certainly a deal that the club will look back on with regret, and that feeling may only get worse after Sunday.
