Newcastle United’s Player of the Season is a hotly contested race this year, with several stars in the running.
A brilliant season ended in another celebration on Sunday as Newcastle United qualified for the Champions League, though they got very lucky.
Newcastle fell to a 1-0 defeat to Everton but were bailed out by Manchester United, who defeated Aston Villa 2-0 in a game mired by controversy.
Morgan Rogers saw a goal incorrectly disallowed but VAR was helpless to intervene due to the referee’s early whistle, but Eddie Howe won’t be crying too much about a poor decision going his way for once.
The return to Europe’s top competition was the cherry on top of a season which already had the best cake possible with the Carabao Cup triumph.
There have been several top performers throughout the campaign and Geordie Boot Boys writers have given their pick for the Player of the Season below.

Liam Brusby – Jacob Murphy

While Alexander Isak has stolen the headlines for another 20+ goal season, Jacob Murphy has quietly enjoyed his best-ever season for Newcastle.
Last summer saw Newcastle forced into selling Yankuba Minteh to avoid a PSR points deduction and allowed Miguel Almiron to leave the club in January. Murphy was left as Howe’s only natural right-winger, but has ensured that this has been much less of a problem.
Although not the most consistent player, Murphy’s 20 Premier League goal contributions have helped Newcastle towards Champions League qualification.
Commonly referred to as one of the most underrated players in the league this season, Murphy deserves a spot in the limelight.
Murphy is being considered for an England call-up by Thomas Tuchel, a testament to his sensational rise this season.
Jonathan Gorrie – Alexander Isak

It may sound a little obvious to go for the star striker. Indeed, Sandro Tonali and Dan Burn would be worthy winners too but, frankly, Newcastle wouldn’t be where they are without Alexander Isak.
The scorer of the most important goal in Newcastle’s modern history, the Sweden star looks worth every penny of the reported £150m+ price tag the club have set upon his shoulders.
Twelve of his 27 goals across all competitions this season have directly resulted in Newcastle winning the game. At the time of writing, Newcastle have only scored 68 goals in the Premier League as a whole and 23 (33.8%) of them have come from him.
To have done all that without the benefit of a suitable back-up is remarkable. Isak is Newcastle’s best player, even if others match him in terms of importance.
James Rutherford – Dan Burn

If it were an award for just 2025, it would have to go to Sandro Tonali. But as an entire season, no Newcastle United player has been more consistent than Dan Burn.
The 33-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down despite his age, and appears to be getting better after shifting from left-back to centre-back.
He scored the second-most important goal in the club’s recent history, as Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup and ended their trophy drought.
That was followed by an England debut at Wembley, as the fairy tale continued.
Burn has been an inspirational figure on Tyneside ever since his £13m arrival, and the fact he stands out alongside superstars like Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak is a testament to his ability.
Dan Murphy – Alexander Isak

Several players are worthy of being named Newcastle’s player of the season, with Jacob Murphy and Dan Burn enjoying 10/10 campaigns. Sandro Tonali, Lewis Hall and Bruno Guimaraes aren’t too far away either.
But it’s impossible to look past Alexander Isak, who has had such a stunning campaign that he could easily be named the Premier League Player of the Season as well as Newcastle’s.
Mohamed Salah’s ridiculous numbers in Liverpool’s title win will prevent that, but only just.
Isak has been awesome to watch all season. If he isn’t sniffing out goals or blasting the ball into the net, he’s showing how classy he is on the ball with elegant passes and unstoppable skill.
He is the only striker to give Virgil van Dijk such a torrid time, not just once, while his goals ended the wait for a trophy and helped fire the Magpies back to the Champions League.
A phenom.
