Newcastle United are finally signing a striker, with Nick Woltemade set to join from Stuttgart.

He is going to be Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever, costing an initial £65million. The fee could even rise to £69million with add-ons.

Woltemade to Newcastle United is a landmark deal, and one that could kick off a chain of events that result in a wild final few days of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old is a player with a lot of potential, and should prove to be a great addition to the Newcastle United squad.

But who are the winners and losers from this deal? Geordie Boot Boys take a look.

Winners from Nick Woltemade joining Newcastle United

Eddie Howe

All summer, Eddie Howe has been desperate to sign a striker. Newcastle have struggled to replace Callum Wilson, while the Alexander Isak situation has left them even shorter in attack.

It was unthinkable that the transfer window could close without Newcastle signing a striker. Thankfully, that is not going to happen.

Howe is excited to work with Woltemade, as he becomes the latest young talent with heaps of potential that the Newcastle United manager can mould.

Anthony Gordon

During Newcastle’s striker troubles, Anthony Gordon has been forced to play through the middle. While Gordon thinks he could become a striker in the future, right now his best position is out wide.

The arrival of Woltemade will allow the 24-year-old to return to his natural habitat, getting chalk on his boots and driving at defenders. However, that will only happen once Gordon’s suspension comes to an end following his red card against Liverpool.

According to the Athletic, Newcastle think Woltemade can benefit wide players like Gordon and Anthony Elanga, allowing them to utilise their speed in behind.

Alexander Isak

Woltemade’s arrival at St James’ Park could unlock the door for Alexander Isak to get his wish.

Isak wants to leave Newcastle and join Liverpool, but that has always been dependent on replacements arriving and a suitable offer coming in.

Woltemade can be Newcastle’s Isak replacement, although another striker signing could be required for the Sweden international to officially depart.

That remains a possibility, with Yoane Wissa to Newcastle still a possibility before 7pm, 1st September.

Will Osula

Will Osula turned heads with his goal against Liverpool on Monday night. It felt like it could be the start of something special in black and white, at a time when the Magpies were crying out for a striker.

However, Woltemade’s arrival is only going to result in Osula’s first-team minutes being diminished. That is a shame for the 22-year-old, who has improved so much during his 12 months on Tyneside.

Howe has not ruled out Osula going on loan, so that is one to keep an eye on between now and the transfer window closing.

Jorgen Strand Larsen

Jorgen Strand Larsen wants to join Newcastle, but that dream is fading away.

While the Magpies do need to sign another striker to facilitate Isak leaving, it feels unlikely to be the giant Norwegian.

Having already seen an offer worth £55million rejected, Newcastle would probably have to push beyond £60million to get a deal done. That is difficult to foresee after a club-record deal for Woltemade.

The 25-year-old remains a target, but it would be a surprise if he is part of the Newcastle United squad after the transfer window closes.
