Newcastle United have seen key players linked with moves away from the club this month.

While Eddie Howe has been keen to strengthen a number of positions during the January transfer window, that has not been able to happen.

Indeed, FFP restrictions are said to be frustrating those behind the scenes.

Instead, much of the focus this month has been on big players potentially leaving. Miguel Almiron, after all, missed the win over Fulham in the FA Cup amid links with a move to Saudi Arabia while Callum Wilson has also been tipped for an exit.

Kieran Trippier, however, confirmed he will be staying at St James’ Park despite interest from Bayern Munich.

Now, some more insight has emerged.

Kieran Trippier: What Newcastle captain asked to do after win over Fulham

Not only did Trippier address his future, The Chronicle report that the England international personally asked to speak to the media after the full-time whistle in order to deliver that very message.

Kieran Trippier: Newcastle legend

There may have been some sense in selling a 33-year-old who has admitted he’s not been at his very best this season, though only from a purely financial point of view.

Trippier has been a remarkable signing for the club and having him around long-term cannot be a bad thing.

Though he was thought to have been tempted by the prospect of joining Bayern, the England international was not said to have kicked up much of a fuss behind the scenes.

The allure of Bayern is certainly understandable, particularly for a player of his age who may not get such a chance again.

Still, to front up and speak to the media shows a real courage and integrity. Throw in what the defender has done on the pitch for the most part and Trippier looks a modern day Newcastle legend.
