Newcastle United have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League, and a number of their players are full internationals.

During the recent international break, Alexander Isak was away with Sweden, Sandro Tonali featured for Italy and Bruno Guimaraes turned out for Brazil.

Three Newcastle players were called up to the England squad as well. Anthony Gordon is already an established Three Lions star, while Lewis Hall could be a solution at left-back.

Troy Deeney’s verdict on Newcastle United and England international Tino Livramento

Tino Livramento was also part of the England squad during the November international break. Livramento made his debut against the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Nations League.

Livramento is a very young player and is still developing his game. The right-back has made eight starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League and has made one start and two substitute appearances in the Carabao Cup for the Magpies this season.

Alan Shearer has been impressed with Livramento’s performances this season. Incoming England head coach Thomas Tuchel also rates Livramento highly.

However, Livramento has yet to win over Troy Deeney. The 36-year-old former Watford striker does not think that the Newcastle right-back is very good.

The talkSPORT pundit believes that Livramento did not deserve the call-up to the England national football team. Deeney has also noted that the £32 million full-back struggles defensively at Newcastle.

Deeney said about Livramento on talkSPORT: “I am not sure about Livramento just yet. It is hard to talk about people getting called up for the national team, but I just think, I think, is he, what’s he great at?

“And I can probably talk about balance. Is he an attacking full-back? Then we have got that in Trent. Is he better defensively than the others? I would argue not. I don’t know.

“Maybe just because of all the injuries that he’s getting in, but I just don’t see it at the moment. I have done a few Newcastle games. He gets caught defensively at the back post, for like watching and waiting and anticipating.”

Troy Deeney has also had his say on Alexander Isak

Deeney may not fancy Livramento, but he is a fan of another Newcastle player – Alexander Isak.

The talkSPORT pundit rates Isak highly and believes that he is a “proper finisher”. Deeney, though, thinks that Chelsea could try to sign him.

Deeney said on talkSPORT: “He’s a finisher. I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea get him. But they’ve spent a lot of money on everyone basically. So I don’t know if they would go again, but Isak is a proper finisher.”
