Despite interest in Newcastle United manger Eddie Howe, Thomas Tuchel is emerging as the leading candidate for the England job.
The FA appear to be stepping up their search for Gareth Southgate’s successor, with Eddie Howe linked with the England job.
However, it was recently reported that Howe is happy at Newcastle after an informal approach from the FA, while they appear to be taking their search elsewhere.
It has now been reported that the FA have opened talks with Thomas Tuchel about being the next England manager, and he is interested in the role. That is good news for Newcastle United fans, as his appointment would bring an end to the rumours surrounding Eddie Howe’s Toon future.
However, it remains to be seen what it would mean for England hopeful Tino Livramento.
Tino Livramento is yet to make his England debut

Despite being in the two most recent England squads, Tino Livramento is yet to make his Three Lions debut.
However, it is only a matter of time. Livramento is an outstanding right-back, and should become a mainstay for England in the coming years.
But that might now be down to Tuchel, if these talks with the FA progress and he gets the job.
Livramento left Chelsea when Thomas Tuchel was manager
Interestingly, Livramento’s time at Chelsea came to an end when Tuchel was manager at Stamford Bridge.
With Livramento not getting any senior minutes, he decided to leave the Blues and sign for Southampton. It proved to be the correct decision, as he excelled in a Saints shirt before joining Newcastle United in 2023 for £32million.
A couple of months after his 2021 exit from Chelsea, Tuchel was asked about Livramento’s decision to leave, and his comments are now very interesting amid speculation that the German could be the next England manager.
“Yes of course he was highly rated,” he said, as reported by Hampshire Live.
“We did everything to keep him here, to show him his future and his possibilities to compete for a position in our team.
“He decided to go, that was his decision and you sometimes have to accept. There are not hard feelings because we can show him possibilities and then it is on the player. He was of course competing with Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta on the right wing-back position.
“I think it was an ideal position to fight because the group wasn’t too big. There was a big chance for him to make it all the way. He decided to go and it’s fair enough, we wish him all the best. We saw the potential, he decided to go another way and fight for a place at Southampton.”
England job could give Tuchel a fresh chance to pick Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento
Chelsea will look back at Livramento’s departure as a mistake. But Chelsea’s loss is Newcastle’s gain.
And now Tuchel could have the chance to make up for his error – if he becomes the next England manager.
It would give Tuchel the chance to finally play Livramento, with the former Bayern Munich manager admitting in 2021 that there were no hard feelings over the defender’s decision to leave.
If Tuchel does get the job, it will also be interesting to see whether or not he turns to Lewis Hall at any point. He was the manager that gave Hall his debut at Chelsea in January 2022.
