Alan Shearer says £32m Newcastle player is fully ready to replace his teammate after beating Arsenal

There were so many Newcastle United stars against Arsenal on Saturday, with Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon probably hogging the headlines.

Lewis Hall continued his incredible rise in a Newcastle United shirt, while Anthony Gordon was compared to David Beckham after that incredible assist for Alexander Isak.

They both played brilliantly against Arsenal, as Newcastle looked back to to what they were a couple of seasons ago.

There were outstanding performances all over the pitch, and Alan Shearer has given praise to a player who perhaps did not get the credit he deserved immediately after the win over the Gunners.

Alan Shearer praises ‘outstanding’ Tino Livramento

Speaking on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer discussed Tino Livramento‘s performance at right-back against Arsenal.

Lineker: “It’s taken a while for Livramento carve himself a place but I thought he was really impressive [against Arsenal].”

Shearer: “He was superb as well. I thought both fullbacks were outstanding. Martinelli rarely had a kick to be honest. A lot of that was down to Livramento. He’s had tough opposition. Kieran Trippier has been great for Newcastle. He’s out injured at the minute, so he [Livramento] has been in and out and not really had the chance to say this is my position. I think that time is now.”

When Kieran Trippier will return for Newcastle

Livramento is starting at right-back for Newcastle once again due to Kieran Trippier‘s injury. The 34-year-old has missed Newcastle’s last four games with a hamstring problem, and his absence is set to continue.

Trippier is not expected to return until after the international break, which means Livramento will continue in the starting XI against Nottingham Forest next Sunday.

Livramento must become undroppable for Newcastle

The £32million man will have another chance to prove why he should be the first choice right-back at Newcastle United, on the back of an impressive display against Arsenal.

Livramento played really well against the Gunners. With the help of Anthony Gordon, he kept Gabriel Martinelli quiet, just like Lewis Hall did with Bukayo Saka on the opposite flank.

It was an excellent display from Livramento, who needs consistency to establish himself as the main man at St James’ Park. That consistency will come from his performance and Eddie Howe’s selection.

Livramento needs to make himself undroppable, even if Trippier is available. Shearer believes he is on the path towards doing that, declaring that the 21-year-old’s time is now.
