All the latest Newcastle United injury news ahead of their Champions League fixture with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The season is still in its opening stages but Newcastle United are already feeling the bite of injuries.
Eddie Howe has not yet had a fully fit squad to choose from since the season began, not helped by Alexander Isak’s refusal to play before forcing through his Liverpool transfer.
It feels like a week isn’t going by without a new player succumbing to an ailment, which isn’t ideal when Newcastle are also competing on the European front.
The Magpies return to Champions League action on Wednesday as they take on Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels.
After falling to a spirited defeat against Barcelona at St. James’ Park in their opening fixture, Newcastle need points on the board, but Union SG will be no pushovers.
Here’s the latest Newcastle injury news and when the players could be back in action.

Tino Livramento – Knee

Newcastle’s latest injury blow came in Sunday’s agonising loss to Arsenal, with star full-back Tino Livramento stretchered off the field with what appeared to be a knee injury.
It’s still not clear how severe the blow is, though, with Newcastle seeking a second opinion, as the knee was still swollen during initial tests. Fingers are crossed, but it’s not looking good.
- What Howe has said: “I’m better off waiting before giving any indication on that because that could be a mistake. Let’s wait and see in the next couple of days.”
- Possible return date: N/A
Yoane Wissa – Knee

Newcastle spent £55m to bring Yoane Wissa in from Brentford on transfer deadline day but are still eagerly awaiting the striker’s debut after he suffered a knee injury on international duty.
Thankfully, it wasn’t as serious as initially feared and Wissa is now nearing a return.
- What Howe has said: “He’s receiving treatment, and no operation is needed. I think we’re looking at the other side of the international break. We hope he can be fit and available for that first game.”
- Possible return date: October 18 vs Brighton
Jacob Ramsey – Ankle

Jacob Ramsey at least managed to make his debut, but he is yet another big-money signing that has already spent a significant chunk of time on the sidelines, with an ankle problem.
However, he too could be back after the international break.
- What Howe has said: “I think his recovery is going really well. He’s on the grass, working hard, building his fitness. The plan, I think, was that it would be the first game after the international break. If it’s anything other than that, then of course, he is ahead of schedule.”
- Possible return date: October 18 vs Brighton
Fabian Schar – Concussion

Defensive stalwart Fabian Schar has missed the last three games after suffering a concussion against Barcelona when a wicked shot hit him in the head. However, Schar has travelled to Brussels and is available again after completing concussion protocol-mandated time off.
- Possible return date: October 1 vs Union SG
Lewis Hall – Fatigue

Newcastle have been trying to manage Lewis Hall’s minutes after his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, an approach that has already been justified following Livramento’s injury. Hall wasn’t in the squad against Arsenal due to fatigue, but has made the trip to Belgium.
- What Howe has said: “Lew was suffering a little bit of fatigue in his body today. We hope he’ll be available.”
- Possible return date: October 1 vs Union SG
