Fabian Schar has been added to Newcastle United’s list of injuries ahead of another busy week of action.

Eddie Howe’s side are twice at home over the coming week as they look to kickstart their season in both the Carabao Cup and the Premier League

Newcastle United, of course, are the holders of the Carabao Cup and will be keen to flex their muscle against League One outfit Bradford City on Wednesday.

After that, there’s the small matter of a home game against Arsenal to deal with.

The Newcastle United squad was heavily rotated for Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth, with Howe making seven changes to the team who lost to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Still, the Newcastle United manager does not have all of his options available to him as things stand. With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news and return dates.

Fabian Schar

Schar has confirmed he will miss the next few games for Newcastle after he suffered a head injury against Barcelona.

The Swiss defender, who played no part in the Bournemouth game, was hit in the face by Marcus Rashford’s shot during the Barca clash.

As such, Schar is reportedly expected to miss 12 days due to concussion protocols.

That means the next time he is in contention will likely be when Newcastle play Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League at the start of October.

Potential return date: October 2025

Jacob Ramsey

Summer signing Jacob Ramsey suffered an ankle injury against Leeds in August

Ramsey was making his first start for the club that day after impressing in his cameo appearance against Liverpool earlier that month.

Indeed, it’s disappointing not to have the former Aston Villa star available for such a busy run of fixtures.

Still, Howe has confirmed that Ramsey will likely be ruled out until after the October international break.

“Jacob Ramsey’s the only other injury concern that we have, he’ll miss the game [Wolves] having suffered from that tackle against Leeds,” he said earlier this month.

“His ankle swelled up at half time, meant he had to come off and unfortunately I think he’ll be missing until the next international break so that’s a big blow.”

Potential return date: October 2025

Yoane Wissa

Like Ramsey, Yoane Wissa suffered an injury shortly after signing for Newcastle United

The forward sustained a knee issue while playing for DR Congo during the international break earlier this month.

Initially, there were fears that he would miss a prolonged period of action. However, Wissa is expected to return from injury in October.

He is, however, facing a race against time to feature against Brighton after the international break.

Speaking after the Barcelona game, Howe said: “We think he’ll be out until the next international break. There’s sort of a race on to be fit for that Brighton game. Hopefully he can make it.”
