Newcastle United star Tino Livramento took to social media to show how disappointed he was to have conceded a very late penalty in a 1-1 draw against PSG on Tuesday night.
Newcastle had found themselves in a winning position heading into eight minutes injury time, but PSG would find a late equaliser after the defender was controversially deemed to have handled the ball inside the box.
Livramento posted on Instagram after the game to show how ‘gutted’ he was with the penalty decision and to thank the travelling fans for their support.
Livramento disappointed with referee’s decision
Up until the 95th minute, Newcastle had defended with such grit and determination and came so close to taking home all three points and putting themselves in a strong position to qualify for the round of 16.
Referee Szymon Marciniak and VAR then broke Geordie hearts by awarding the last minute equaliser which has sparked outrage on social media by players, pundits and fans.
The ball was kicked straight at Livramento and had actually come off his chest first before bouncing onto his elbow, but the referee deemed this enough evidence to overturn his original decision of no penalty.
Livramento himself was clearly frustrated with the decision decision, especially after having such a good game for Newcastle and playing a huge part in Alexander Isak’s goal as well as giving everything to defend the slim lead over PSG.
On Instagram, Livramento said: “Gutted with how the game ended, we keep fighting together as a team!
“Thank you for your incredible support.”

Plenty of positives for Livramento
Despite the disappointing result, Livramento had again put in a very good performance and is starting to make a habit of playing so well that Eddie Howe simply cannot afford to drop him.
The defender has been man-of-the-match against Manchester United and Manchester City but has also been putting in some brilliant displays in high pressure games against Dortmund and PSG.
Against the French champions, the 21-year-old had actually played as a left-back like he did against Chelsea, showing how versatile he can be which will be key for Howe particularly when he has such a stretched squad already with two first-team left-backs out injured.
Like a number of Newcastle players, Livramento can still be proud of how he played and know that he and his team have at least given supporters hope when they return to St James’ Park for the final group game.
