Tino Livramento announced himself to the Newcastle United faithful in the third round of the Carabao Cup, and it appears that he really likes playing in this competition.

The defender was given his second ever Toon start against Manchester United on Wednesday night, having started in the previous round against Manchester City.

Livramento was exceptional that night, producing a man of the match display to keep Jack Grealish quiet and help Newcastle knock Pep Guardiola’s side out of the competition.

It was a breathtaking performance from the £32million summer signing, and he was at it again at Old Trafford as Eddie Howe’s side won 3-0 to advance to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.

Tino Livramento does it again in the Carabao Cup

The 20-year-old started at right-back against Manchester United, and was able to prove once again why Newcastle spent so much money on him.

Livramento helped the Magpies break the deadlock in the first half, with his lung-busting run from his own half leading to Miguel Almiron scoring Newcastle’s first goal of the evening.

It was magical from Livramento. He picked up possession in his own half, before driving towards the Man United goal with purpose. Erik ten Hag’s players could not stop him, meaning it was simply up to Livramento to pick the right pass. And he certainly did that.

The defender used Anthony Gordon as a dummy, sending the ball to the left into the path of Almiron. He did the rest, making it 1-0 in the 28th minute.

It was a great finish from the Paraguayan, but the goal was all about the assist – and it was an assist that really impressed Gary Neville.

Gary Neville seriously impressed with ‘wonderful’ Livramento

Neville was on commentary for the game, which was broadcast on Sky Sports Premier League. After Almiron’s goal, he was full of praise for Livramento’s contribution.

“Livramento’s run is wonderful,” he said.

“He goes past Mason Mount like he’s not there. Then he ignores that first run of Gordon when he could have played it.

“Then Dalot’s sleeping, Almiron’s not.”

Neville then went on to give Livramento the player of the match award, making it back to back honours for the defender in the Carabao Cup.

Livramento is a future Newcastle star

It was incredible to see Livramento do so well against Manchester City in round three of the Carabao Cup. He defended brilliantly that night.

The game at Old Trafford was different, and allowed Livramento to flex his attacking muscles. That run showcased why he is so different to Kieran Trippier, but why he can be just as dangerous.

While Trippier will remain Newcastle’s first choice right-back, the Magpies have signed a real star of the future in Livramento, and Toon fans will be keen to see more and more of him.
