It has been a challenging season for Newcastle United, but there have certainly been some standout performers.
Bruno Guimaraes has been playing at an elite level, and continues to prove why he is Newcastle United’s talisman and most important player.
Elsewhere, Fabian Schar has been exceptional. He has been our most consistent defender, and makes it more and more baffling every week that he only cost £3million.
But while they have both been excellent, Peter Crouch does not believe that either of them have been Newcastle United’s best player this season. Instead, he thinks that honour belongs to Anthony Gordon.
Peter Crouch seriously impressed with Anthony Gordon this season
On the latest episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, the former Liverpool and England striker has been heaping praise on Anthony Gordon.
“Anthony Gordon is back and I think he has been their best player this year,” he said.

Gordon has been exceptional for Newcastle United
A lot of Toon fans will agree with Crouch’s assessment of Gordon this season. He has been absolutely outstanding, and the majority of supporters will pick him out as Newcastle’s star player.
The 22-year-old has taken his game to a completely new level, looking unrecognisable to the lad who signed for Newcastle United from Everton just over a year ago.
Eddie Howe has transformed the winger, and there is even more to come. That is extremely exciting, as the level Gordon has been at this season has been immense.
Goals and assists have been flowing, with the youngster boasting seven goals and eight assists in all competitions.
Gordon is proving to be much more decisive, justifying why the club invested so much money in him last year.
Crouch thinks he is Newcastle’s player of the season so far, and it is difficult to disagree with him.
For me, Bruno is the only player who can challenge him for that title, but what Gordon has done is certainly more impressive when you consider the level he was at last season compared to now.
