The phrase ‘world class’ gets thrown around a lot in football, but Eddie Howe believes Newcastle United genuinely do have someone who is worthy of that tag.
The Toon boss has been speaking to the media ahead of Newcastle United’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth at St James’ Park, one week after their 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
That victory was inspired by Bruno Guimaraes, who was out of this world at the City Ground.
The 26-year-old scored a spectacular brace, proving why he is attracting admiring glances from clubs all over Europe. He is one of the best midfielders around, and is well worth the £100million that he will cost if anyone activates his release clause.
Bruno has shut down talk of a move away from Tyneside for now, but the noise will continue to get louder with each impressive performance. And, in the eyes of Eddie Howe, he is a world class talent.
Eddie Howe says Bruno Guimaraes is world class
Howe has been speaking about Bruno during his pre-match press conference, and was asked if he believes the Brazil international is world class.
“I think he is,” he said.
“I don’t say that lightly because it’s easy to say, but you have to believe what you’re saying. And I do.
“I think he has unbelievable qualities that we see on a daily basis. He is versatile, fundamentally he has an unbelievable attitude to life and football. He can produce moments of magic like he did against Nottingham Forest.”
Pressure on Newcastle to stay at Bruno’s level
Bruno is a hero on Tyneside. He is adored by the Toon Army, and has had a seismic impact since his arrival in January 2022.
The Brazilian has played a major role in this journey that the club is on. He helped us get to Wembley last season, while he was also crucial in qualifying for the Champions League.
But that is the level that Bruno should always be at. He should be playing in the Champions League every season, or at least challenging for it.
That is why there is pressure on Newcastle to raise their level and match what Bruno is capable of. Otherwise, he will be more than justified to take his talent elsewhere.
Bruno is a world class player, and he needs to be playing in a world class team.
