Newcastle United continued their impressive run of form by beating Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.
For Eddie Howe’s players, the game would have felt like a training exercise at times. Newcastle United barely had to get out of first gear on their way to a dominant win over a Leicester City side who looked destined for an immediate return to the Championship.
Newcastle’s 3-0 win against Leicester meant it is four wins in a row and up to fifth in the Premier League in what is shaping up to be a tight race for the final Champions League spots. It is almost a certainty that fifth place will be enough for Champions League qualification this season, but the Magpies will be eager to finish in the top four.

Newcastle United’s sensational Premier League statistic
This season has relied on sheer determination at times, especially at the beginning of the season. The Magpies found themselves trailing on several occasions but were able to pull it back and win one way or another.
Newcastle have also been ruthless when it comes to taking the lead and holding onto it for a win. Howe’s style of football has become renowned for being unforgiving to teams, capitalising on mistakes and finding the back of the net, mainly through Alexander Isak.
A new statistic, shared by The Athletic, has shown just how ruthless Newcastle have been on both sides of the pitch.
It was revealed that Newcastle have dropped the lowest number of points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, with just seven. Furthermore, only one team in Europe’s top four leagues can better them. Athletic Club have dropped six, just one fewer than the Magpies.
Newcastle have gone ahead on 19 occasions this season, with their only defeat coming against Fulham at St James’ Park in February.
While those tight 2-1 and 1-0 wins may look ugly on paper, it shows the work that goes in behind the scenes for Newcastle to grind out results.
Newcastle have also won 18 points from losing positions this season, a tally which can only be bettered by Liverpool.
When do Newcastle United next play in the Premier League?
The race for Champions League football is heating up, there are still many teams who can finish in the top five.
After Monday’s win at the King Power Stadium, Newcastle face a tough challenge against their historical rival, Manchester United at St James’ Park on Sunday, 13th April. Kick-off time is at 16:30pm.
Newcastle have not lost at their home ground in the Premier League since the beginning of February, so the cathedral on the hill has become more of a fortress recently.
