Newcastle United have injury problems with which to contend ahead of the final few games of the season.
It has been a historic campaign for Newcastle United, who last month ended their 70-year wait for a major domestic honour by winning the Carabao Cup.
Still, there’s still plenty left to play for during what remains of the campaign. Eddie Howe’s side could yet qualify for the Champions League, with the Premier League’s top five potentially being handed entry into next season’s competition.
Newcastle beat Leicester 3-0 on Monday night to move fifth in the Premier League table and are behind fourth-placed Chelsea on only goal difference.
They will be expected to beat Manchester United on Sunday too but Howe does have a few injury issues to deal with in the build-up to the game.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injuries…
Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon missed the Premier League wins over West Ham and Brentford as well as the historic Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool due to suspension, following the red card he was shown against Brighton in FA Cup in early March.
The winger’s suspension was over in time for the Leicester game but he was still forced to sit out.
Gordon suffered a thigh injury while playing for England and Howe revealed before the Foxes clash that he was training on an individual basis.
Speaking after the Leicester game, Howe said: “Anthony wasn’t close.
“He hasn’t been able to train with us yet.
“He’s still feeling the effects of that tackle with England. We hope that we may see him soon, but I’ve got no certainty on that.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Joe Willock
Joe Willock may not be one of the first choices in the Newcastle midfield but remains an important part of Howe’s plans.
However, the midfielder missed the Leicester clash due to concussion, having been on the end of a colission during Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Brentford.
A Newcastle statement released on Monday read: “Joe Willock misses out this evening due to a concussion.”
Howe would later add: “Joe’s concussion means I don’t think he will make the weekend.”
Potential return date: April 2025
Sven Botman
Sven Botman has only made six appearances across all competitions this season.
The defender underwent serious knee surgery in 2024 and briefly made a comeback at the turn of the year. However, the Dutchman then required another operation – albeit on a different knee – and has not played since February.
Botman is working on his rehabilitation out in Dubai and Howe has previously confirmed he’s expected back in May.
“Sven’s not too bad,” said the Newcastle United manager.
“He’s had a very minor operation just to clean out some floating bone that was in his knee and was causing him a problem.
“The initial diagnosis was between six and eight weeks but I think he’s already got through a few of those. Fingers crossed we’ll see him in May.”
Potential return date: May 2025
Jamaal Lascelles
Jamaal Lascelles has not played since suffering a serious knee injury against West Ham way back in March 2024.
There had been hope the defender was on course to return at some point during this campaign but Howe has confirmed Lascelles may miss the rest of the season.
Quite what happens from there is also uncertain, with the former Nottingham Forest youngster linked with a move away from the club.
Last month, Howe said: “I don’t know if we will see Jamaal again (this season) and I don’t want to set a target or time.
“He has started very light training with the squad.
“But on the drills that are not competitive he has joined in. He has looked very good, it is small steps for him.”
Potential return date: Unknown

Lewis Hall
After a difficult first season at the club, Lewis Hall has become one of the most important players in the Newcastle United squad.
With that in mind, his ankle injury suffered in March was a cruel blow.
Newcastle have confirmed Hall will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season and the full-back is now focusing on getting back to full fitness in time for pre-season later this summer.
In March, a club statement read: “Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot.
“The 20-year-old was injured during the Magpies’ Premier League fixture at Liverpool.
“Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.
“Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Lewis the very best with his surgery and recovery.”
Potential return date: Summer 2025
