Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on one Newcastle United player for his performances this season.

Newcastle United’s sensational run of form continued on Monday night as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over a hapless Leicester City.

Jacob Murphy killed the game as a contest within 10 minutes as he took advantage of shambolic defending to score two easy goals.

The impressive Harvey Barnes added a third against his former club before the break and Eddie Howe’s side then took things easy in an uneventful second half.

It was yet another strong performance from Murphy, who takes his goal contributions for the season up to an excellent 18.

Jamie Carragher has been impressed by Murphy this season and labelled him a ‘revelation.’

Jamie Carragher praises ‘fantastic’ Jacob Murphy

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football at half-time, Carragher said: “Jacob Murphy has been a revelation since he joined the club, but especially this season.

“He’s been absolutely fantastic.”

Craig Bellamy was in complete agreement and said: “He’s been outstanding. He has.

“You know what I like about him? You can see he’s an outstanding professional. He’s had to fight hard for his place but even bits when you see he comes on, he always has an impact.

“If he starts, I always felt he had an impact. But this run now, to me, shows the dedication to your profession.

“It’s not always easy, you’re not always starting but what’s your attitude like?

“He’s been given the opportunity and are you able to then take that on yourself? He has and credit to him. He must have an incredible attitude, I don’t know him personally.

“He’s been an outstanding player and he’s a big reason why they’re on the charge to the Champions League.”

Jacob Murphy on his ‘scary’ second goal

Murphy’s second goal will go down as one of the most bizarre in Premier League history.

It was nearly one of the best as Fabian Schar spotted the Leicester goalkeeper off his line and attempted to lob him from a full 55 yards.

The defender succeeded in his aim and appeared to have found the back of the net, only for the crossbar to intervene.

Thankfully, unlike the Leicester defenders, Murphy had followed the ball and was on hand to stick it in, even if his touch nearly let him down.

On the goal, he told Sky Sports: “It was a bit scary when it came back because I wasn’t sure about first time finish or to control it.

“By the time I controlled it about seven times, I managed to sort my feet out and score!”
