Newcastle United eased to another Premier League win on Monday night, making light work of Leicester City.

Indeed, Newcastle United kept up the pace in the battle to finish in the Premier League’s top four or five, with even fifth place potentially enough to reach next season’s Champions League

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle beat Leicester 3-0 on Monday night in rather routine fashion.

The away side were always expected to claim three points and it could not really have been easier, albeit after an early scare when Jamie Vardy had a chance in the very first few seconds.

Jacob Murphy bagged a brace to put Howe’s side in cruise control before Harvey Barnes struck against his former club.

Seemingly already resigned to their fate, the Foxes fans showed a touch of class after.

Leicester fans react after Harvey Barnes scores for Newcastle United

Newcastle fans wanted Barnes to start ahead of Anthony Gordon against Leicester and they certainly got their wish.

Gordon, of course, missed out as he continues to recover from a leg injury sustained while playing for England last month.

In his absence, Barnes continued his fine form.

Having recorded assists against West Ham and Brentford in the last two Premier League games in between a fine performance in the Carabao Cup final, the 27-year-old scored his sixth goal of the season at the King Power Stadium.

Barnes poked home after Joelinton’s shot was saved by Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen and duly went into a muted celebration, showing respect towards his former club.

As per Dominic Scurr of The Shields Gazette on social media platform X, even the home supporters were singing the forward’s name after he scored.

Harvey Barnes stats this season should put pressure on Anthony Gordon

It’s now surely up to Gordon to win his place back.

Barnes has drawn level with him on Premier League goals for the season, despite making much fewer starts.

While Gordon cannot be written off entirely and has certainly played a role this season, deciding to drop Barnes all of a sudden would be incredibly harsh.

After a slow start to his Newcastle United career, Barnes is coming good.
