Jacob Murphy was on fire for Newcastle United against Leicester City, scoring a brace during their 3-0 win.
It was certainly a game to remember for the 30-year-old who will surely be frustrated to have not bagged his first hat-trick for the Magpies. Still, Jacob Murphy did his job and helped Newcastle United secure the three points against Premier League strugglers Leicester City.
The winger was in the right place at the right time less than two minutes into the game when he got on the end of Tino Livramento’s dangerous cross to fire home from close range.
Murphy doubled his tally when he was first to the pick up Fabian Schar’s audatious effort which hit the crossbar from the halfway line. Harvey Barnes scored against Leicester, his former club, but they are sure to remember Murphy’s contribution to the game.
The win sees Newcastle move up to fifth in the Premier League and boost their chances of qualifying for the Champions League at the end of the season. The Magpies already have Europa Conference League football confirmed for the 2025/26 campaign, but fans will be hoping for much more after their historic Carabao Cup win.
The focus now shifts to Sunday’s game against Manchester United, but Murphy has made a big admission that stretches further beyond this season.
With Murphy adding to his impressive goal tally this season, he has shared what every Newcastle player wants to do in the future.

Jacob Murphy strives for more silverware at Newcastle United
This season immediately became an all-timer after the Carabao Cup win, and qualifying for the Champions League will make it much sweeter.
Champions League football is the goal for Newcastle, which was agreed in an internal meeting between the players after their Wembley triumph.
Murphy bagged an assist at Wembley for Alexander Isak’s goal, continuing their fantastic partnership this season.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports (h/t BBC Sport), Murphy was asked about the buzz at Newcastle following the cup win and how that can help the team going forward.
“It’s been unbelievable. The bus tour was out of this world, such a great day. You can see why the greats get addicted to winning trophies, the feeling it gives you. Now we’re back training, you want that again next season. We want to keep striving for better and taste it again.”
On Champions League ambitions, Murphy said: “It’s hugely important for us. We can see other English teams doing really well, we’ve had a taste of it last season. We’ve got eight games to go now, no other distractions. I think we can really put a challenge up to the teams around us, one game it can all change so we need to keep the pressure on.”

Is Jacob Murphy signing a new contract at Newcastle United?
While Rafa Benitez was manager, the feeling was that Murphy could leave Newcastle after failing to impress following his move from Norwich City in 2017. However, the winger has thrived under Eddie Howe and has never looked better.
Murphy signed with a new agency recently, sparking suggestion that he could soon be signing a new deal. It has since been reported that Murphy is going to be given a new deal at Newcastle as a reward for his fine form this season.
