Malaga winger Antonio Cordero is set to join Newcastle United on a free transfer this summer.
It was confirmed earlier in April that the 18-year-old has finally put pen to paper over a deal with the Magpies after discussions were initially reported during the January transfer window.
Antonio Cordero rejected Real Madrid and Barcelona for Newcastle United, showing the club is now in much better hands with a top negotiator like Paul Mitchell.
Malaga’s boss refused to comment on Cordero’s Newcastle move, claiming that the youngster is still committed to his current club and their current relegation battle.
Cordero was booed when Malaga fans found out his contract situation, but after his most recent performance in a 2-2 draw against Eibar, the fans have been given something to cheer about.

Antonio Cordero bags assist for Malaga ahead of Newcastle United move
So far this season, Cordero has impressed in the Segunda Division his five goals put him second in the club’s leading scorers this season.
After Monday’s game, Cordero has now extended his lead at the top of the assist charts after setting up Malaga’s second goal against Eibar. The 18-year-old now has six assists for the season, making it 11 goal contributions in total.
Cordero did not start the game, but came on at the beginning of the second half and left his mark on the game in the 70th minute with the assist.
Spanish media made their feelings clear on Cordero’s performance in their player ratings. Merchan en directo gave Cordero a rating of 5.5, saying: “He came on bravely and with spark. He had a clear one-on-one in which the defender won. He assisted Rafa for the 1-2.”
Elsewhere, La Opinion de Malaga gave the 18-year-old a rating of 6 and said: “Assistant. Calmness to hand over the goal to Rafa. He could have scored his own goal.”
Will Antonio Cordero play for Newcastle United’s first-team?
Early signs suggest the signing of Cordero will be a very good one for the Magpies. Mitchell has made a commitment to signing young players from abroad, and Cordero is one of several players who have already come through the door.
While the young winger has already impressed for Malaga’s first team, he may have to wait for his opportunity to play under Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.
Newcastle plan to loan Cordero out for his first season, with the belief that he is an academy signing, rather than one who will be thrown straight into the deep end.
Despite that, reports have claimed that Cordero will join Ajax on loan from Newcastle for his first season. The Magpies did the same thing for Yankuba Minteh in his first year on Tyneside. The winger joined Feyenoord on loan, where he was able to develop and earn himself a big-money move to Brighton.
