It remains to be seen what kind of budget Newcastle United have to play with at the end of the season.

Newcastle United are locked in a battle for Champions League qualification, and the outcome of that will surely go some way into determining how much money they can spend.

While Newcastle insiders think they can spend this summer, the exact extent of that is yet to have been determined.

Still, the club have seemingly made a move to sign one promising young player in the form of Antonio Cordero.

Though there is yet to have been any official communication, Newcastle have reportedly signed Cordero on a pre-contract agreement ahead of a move from Malaga this summer.

Now, Malaga manager Sergio Pellicer has provided an update.

Malaga confirm Antonio Cordero latest after Newcastle United move

The 18-year-old has attracted a lot of interest during his short career.

Barcelona attempted to hijack Newcastle’s move for Cordero, albeit it seems the Magpies have won out.

The Spanish second tier side were preparing for a huge game against Eibar on Monday night. They sit only three points above the drop zone and have lost their last three matches.

Asked about Cordero’s move to Newcastle, Pellicer told a press conference (via Radio Marca): “I’m not going to talk about the individual. It’s a collective moment. I see that everyone wants and trains as we ask.

“I see the whole group committed. I’ve spoken to him and he’s 100%. Everything else is beyond me. Some of them don’t know it, but they’re going to score a very important goal this season.”

Antonio Cordero’s immediate future is in doubt after Newcastle United move

Ajax are interested in a move for Cordero and have been touted as a potential landing spot if Newcastle opt to send him out on loan next season.

However, Cordero’s camp are unsure if he’ll leave Newcastle on loan, despite previous reports suggesting that was the most likely outcome.

Frankly, a loan move does feel like a good idea. Expecting a teenager to make the immediate step up from the Spanish second-tier to life in the Premier League feels somewhat unwise.

It’ll be interesting to see if Cordero can help his side beat the drop before departing…
