One Newcastle United player has made it into Garth Crooks’ Premier League Team of the Week.

There are no prizes for guessing who it is, after one man hogged the headlines following Newcastle United’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

It was a vital win that Eddie Howe celebrated passionately at the end, and it was largely possible because of Bruno Guimaraes.

The 26-year-old was given the chance to play higher up the pitch, and he capped it off with a goal in each half. The first was a beautiful volley to give the Magpies the lead, while the second was a brilliant finish that showed off Bruno’s fantastic anticipation.

He was a superstar at the City Ground on Saturday night, and after the game he shut down rumours of an exit by declaring his love for the club.

He loves Newcastle United, and Newcastle United loves him. In fact, BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks believes that he has been an ‘inspiration’ since his £40million arrival at St James’ Park.

Garth Crook hails inspirational Bruno Guimaraes

Crooks has included Bruno in his team of the week for BBC Sport, praising the Brazil international for his efforts against Nottingham Forest.

“He scored two of the best goals I’ve seen all season in the 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest,” he wrote.

“The skill and technique required to produce such a high-quality finish on the volley against Forest was sensational, while his second goal was worthy of winning any match.

“Guimaraes has been an inspiration ever since he arrived at St James’ Park. The Geordie fans have always loved their midfield ball players, especially those who wear their heart on their sleeve and show them that they care, and Guimaraes is one of those.”

Newcastle fans adore Bruno and his passion

As Crooks says, Bruno plays with his heart on his sleeve. He blends the passion of a Geordie with the flair of a Brazilian, and that is why he is such a superstar on Tyneside.

Bruno has ‘got it’ since day one. There was no real settling in period with the fans. He built up an instant connection as soon as he made his debut against Everton at St James’ Park two years ago.

Since then, he has gone on to do incredible things in black and white, and the brace against Forest was just the latest chapter.

Hopefully he writes plenty more stories in black and white, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Bruno has inspired this Newcastle team to greatness, and there should be even more to come.
