Fabian Schar was Newcastle United’s hero against Aston Villa, and it has been an exciting few weeks for the Toon defender.
The 32-year-old started January by signing a new contract with Newcastle United, with the centre-back’s deal now running until 2025.
He then ended the month with a brace at Villa Park, as his two goals helped Newcastle beat Aston Villa 3-1. It was a seismic victory for Eddie Howe’s side, who will hope to use it as a springboard for the rest of the season.
And in between those two events, Fabian Schar was the subject of a special display from Wor Flags.
Ahead of Newcastle United’s home clash with Manchester City on January 13th, the PA system began to blare out ‘Video Killed The Radio Star’ by The Buggles. Then a flag and a banner was unveiled in the Gallowgate, with the banner reading ‘everyone needs a Fabian Schar’.
It was a wonderful tribute to an outstanding player, and Schar has now admitted that the display left him ‘speechless’.

Schar has been speaking to the club’s official website after winning the player of the month award for January, and discussed what Wor Flags did for him before the Man City game.
“I honestly wasn’t expecting it so that was a really special moment for me,” he said.
“I felt so valued by the support.
“It gave me goosebumps and left me speechless. It was really nice and a great gesture from them. I’ve been here a while now, so I hope they know how much it meant to me.”

The most recent display for Schar was outstanding, and a fitting tribute to a player who has served Newcastle United so well since joining the club in 2018.
To get a player of his quality for just £3million was absolutely incredible, and he continues to improve in black and white.
He is playing the best football of his career under Eddie Howe, and long may it continue.
