PSG midfielder avoids ‘serious injury’, but will miss Champions League clash with Newcastle next week

When Newcastle United take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next week, Eddie Howe’s side might be a bit different.

The Magpies stunned PSG at St James’ Park earlier this season, winning 4-1 on what was a historic night for the club.

There were some special performances in black and white, but Howe’s squad has been decimated since then. The Magpies are in the midst of an injury crisis, while they also have the issue of Sandro Tonali being suspended.

From the team that started against PSG back in October, Tonali and Dan Burn are set to be missing, while Alexander Isak, Miguel Almiron and Sean Longstaff are in a race against time to prove their fitness.

The Newcastle squad is battered and bruised heading into a crucial Champions League fixture in Paris, but Luis Enrique also has an injury problem of his own.

Warren Zaire-Emery to miss Newcastle game due to injury

Despite only being 17-years-old, Warren Zaire-Emery is proving to be an important player for PSG this season. He was arguably their best player at St James’ Park when they were embarrassed on Tyneside.

They will be out for revenge at the Parc Des Princes, but will have to do so without Zaire-Emery.

That is because the midfielder has suffered an ankle injury whilst playing for France and is set to be out of action for a few weeks according to Didier Deschamps.

“It’s still a significant injury that will certainly take several weeks,” he said.

“You never want to lose players in matches like this. It could have been more serious.”

Zaire-Emery has been key for PSG this season at 17

While he is only 17, Zaire-Emery will be a big miss for PSG. He has played every single minute of their Champions League campaign so far, which just sums up how talented he is despite being so young.

Enrique has started him in 14 out of 15 games so far this season, which shows how much he trusts the teenager. He will now need someone to take his place in the side, on a night where Newcastle desperately need a victory.

The Magpies have lost back-to-back games in the Champions League, with the double defeat to Borussia Dortmund leaving Newcastle on the brink of elimination.

Eddie Howe desperately needs to get a result in Paris, where he will take on a side that does not have Zaire-Emery, but does still boast Kylian Mbappe.
