Newcastle United’s injury problems are back, but it appears that Kieran Trippier’s issue is not as bad as first feared.
The 33-year-old defender was forced off with a calf injury on Saturday during the Magpies’ 3-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park. He was replaced by Tino Livramento, who scored Newcastle United’s third goal of the afternoon.
Immediately after the game, Eddie Howe expressed his hope that the injury was nothing major, having witnessed Kieran Trippier walk down the touchline. Meanwhile, Trippier himself admitted that he was feeling positive after asking to come off, as he awaited the results of a scan.
Now it appears that the results of the scan are back, and it is both good and bad news for Newcastle United.
Kieran Trippier to miss next two Newcastle games due to injury
According to the Daily Mail, Trippier is going to miss Newcastle’s next two games due to a calf injury. He will be unavailable for Monday’s Premier League clash with Chelsea and the FA Cup quarter final against Manchester City.
They state that he is also likely to miss the upcoming England internationals, but could be fit by the time the Magpies welcome West Ham United to St James’ Park on March 30th.
It is a blow to lose Trippier for some key games, but it sounds like this is a better outcome than what Toon officials were initially expecting.
The Daily Mail add there were fears that the £12million right-back had suffered a serious injury, but that has not proven to be the case.

Trippier injury gives Tino Livramento a chance
With Trippier now ruled out, it is a chance for Livramento to come into the side. He is the natural choice to take Trippier’s place in the starting XI. This is why we bought him last summer, after all.
While Trippier is a massively important player, fans will not be worried about the prospect of Livramento taking his place. The 21-year-old has been outstanding when called upon this season, and supporters have actually been keen to see more of him.
Now they will get that chance, with Livramento braced to represent Newcastle at right-back during Trippier’s injury absence.
