Newcastle United were given a bit of a scare after Kieran Trippier was forced off in the second half of their win against Wolves yesterday.
Although he’s not been at his very best this season, Trippier is still a huge part of Newcastle’s team as well as a great leaders and organiser of the defence.
It’s not quite clear yet the extent of his injury, but speaking to NUFCTV, Howe claimed that he saw something that gave him a bit of hope as the stand-in captain was substituted.
Howe hopeful that Trippier injury isn’t bad
Newcastle looked to be back to their best against Wolves yesterday as they changed their approach to the game to give their defence, which has been leaking goals, a bit more protection.
Trippier was playing a key role in that tactical switch up until about the 50th minute when he asked play to be stopped so he could receive treatment and soon after decided he couldn’t continue.
Howe, of course, was concerned that the experienced defender had asked to be substituted as he’s not one to give in so easily and will do absolutely everything he can to be out on the pitch.
However, the fact he had managed to get round the pitch over to the manager all by himself without hobbling did give Howe some hope, but now they will try discover the extent of the injury for their upcoming games.
On Trippier, Howe said: “He felt some pain in his calf. We’re hopeful it’s not too bad, it was good to see him walk down the touchline rather than limp. So we’ll wait and see how bad that is.”

Newcastle have the perfect Trippier replacement
Nobody wants to see any Newcastle player receive yet another injury after the season that they’ve had, but it did present Tino Livramento with a rare opportunity to play in his natural position.
The 21-year-old has been getting some playing time off the bench as of late but it’s typically been to replace Dan Burn at left-back where he hasn’t been able to show his true qualities.
However, in the win against Wolves Livramento looked like he’d been starting regularly for Newcastle, topping his performance off with his first ever goal for the club and some brilliant defending to secure the win.
The youngster will certainly have given Howe something to think about for the future, but for now he’ll take comfort in the fact that if Trippier is injured then Newcastle already have a perfect candidate to step up and replace him.
