Kieran Trippier has offered an update on his injury to Newcastle United fans after he was forced off during their 3-0 win against Wolves at the weekend.

Trippier is not one to complain about a potential injury unless it is something that is really bothering which is why seeing him be forced off was such a big concern for Eddie Howe and the fans.

Speaking after winning FWA North East Footballer of the Year Award for 2023, Trippier shared how he’s awaiting results after a scan but is feeling quite positive about it.

Trippier says he’s ‘feeling good’

Newcastle had only just resumed play after the half-time break before the defender had clearly felt something in his calf and gestured that he would need the medical staff to take a look at him.

Fortunately the team were up 2-0 at the time so it wasn’t as significant a blow as some of the other injuries have been when they just take the wind out of the sails of the players – like Alexander Isak against Borussia Dortmund.

Howe chose to remain positive after watching Trippier walk all the way around the pitch by himself without hobbling or limping, but Newcastle’s staff won’t know much more until the results from the scan come through.

Newcastle do have a bit of a longer wait for their next game as they travel to Chelsea on Monday night so the England international will have a bit more time to rest and recover if it was only a minor knock

On his injury, Trippier said: “I just felt something in my calf and I don’t want to take any risks or anything.

“I had a good chat with the manager but I won’t know anything until [Monday]. My calf is feeling good but you know scan results can say anything, but most importantly I’m feeling positive.”

Newcastle already have perfect Trippier replacement

Newcastle have suffered so many huge injuries this season which has taken a huge toll on the squad and their position in the Premier League, but they already have a quality backup to fill in for Trippier.

Tino Livramento came on for the injured right-back in the second half and made a huge impression by winning some key tackles before scoring his first ever goal for the club in brilliant fashion.

Of course, the worry is that Newcastle will lose the experience and leadership with Trippier potentially out of the squad, but in terms of quality Livramento is more than capable of holding his own in the team should he need to.

The young man may also have a point to prove as he could face his former side in Chelsea and show them exactly what they’re missing.
