Newcastle United enjoyed a brilliant win over Wolves at the weekend and there’s one player who will be hoping his performances has earned him a bigger role for the rest of the season.
Kieran Trippier was an unfortunate casualty in what was otherwise a flawless afternoon for Newcastle, but Tino Livramento stepped up as his replacement and made a big impact by netting his first goal for the club.
Even if Trippier’s injury turns out to be nothing serious, Eddie Howe must be considering using the 21-year-old defender more often after his performances in a black and white shirt.
Livramento unlucky to be behind Newcastle star
For most other Premier League teams outside of the European spaces, Livramento would probably be a regular in the starting 11 by now, he’s just unlucky to be behind someone as important as Trippier.
Not only is the 33-year-old a great attacking threat as well as quality defender, he’s got more experience than anyone else in the team and is a great leader to have out on the pitch.
There would be few suggesting to drop the England international altogether when he’s done nothing to deserve that, but Howe must find a way to get Livramento into this side for what’s left of this season.
Perhaps he could be used to give Trippier more of a rest towards the end of games, especially against opposition who are proving tough to break down, or he could be used down the left.
It’s not his usual or best position, but he’s certainly capable of playing at left-back as he proved when Dan Burn was out in the Champions League, and he could give Newcastle more of an attacking threat down that flank.

Summer signing still left out in the cold
While Howe has received a lot of praise for what he’s achieved at Newcastle in such a short space of time, there have been some criticisms regarding his loyalties to certain players.
Burn is definitely one who a lot of supporters have criticised especially over the last couple of months as his form has struggled, and they’ve been crying out for Livramento to be given a chance.
The £32m summer signing was eventually brought into the team but it was against one of the best teams and one of the best players in the league as Newcastle faced Arsenal and Livramento was given the task of defending Bukayo Saka.
Newcastle, of course, lost the game in a disappointing defeat and in the two games that followed that Burn was once again included in the starting 11.
It will be very interesting to see if Howe persists with the former Brighton man at left-back not only for this campaign but for next season when Livramento will surely be banging on his door for more minutes.
