While Newcastle United’s first team did the business at the King Power Stadium, the young Magpies were in action at St James’ Park.

On Monday night, the focus was undoubtedly on Newcastle United’s 3-0 win against Leicester City, which gave them a much-needed boost in their hopes of Champions League football next season.

Jacob Murphy was hailed as fantastic by Jamie Carragher for his brace, while Fabian Schar was left kicking himself when his effort from inside Newcastle’s own half struck the crossbar before Murphy picked up the loose ball and fired past Mads Hermansen.

Kieran Trippier was Newcastle’s unsung hero against Leicester. The defender won all of his duels and completed every dribble as he continues to impress Eddie Howe following renewed game time.

While supporters are celebrating a win in the Premier League, another result for Newcastle’s academy is sure to have caught the eye of a few. Especially after seeing the scoreline and who bagged a brace during the game.

Garang Kuol impresses for Newcastle United under-21s

Forward Garang Kuol endured a fairly rough start to life at Newcastle before finally finding form this season. Kuol joined Newcastle for £300k in 2023 but was sent out on loan to Scottish Premiership side Hearts shortly after. A lacklustre loan spell at Volendam followed before Kuol returned to the academy last summer.

Kuol was set to be loaned out from Newcastle again, but an injury meant he was not able to complete a move anywhere – a blessing in disguise.

Since the beginning of the year, Kuol has impressed for Newcastle’s under-21s. The performances have seen fans call for Howe to include Kuol in Newcastle’s first-team, claiming he is far too good for the academy.

That point may have just proven to be true, as Kuol found himself on the scoresheet once again for the under-21s in a 7-1 win against Reading’s youth team at St James’ Park. Kuol scored a brace and bagged two assists in the game, while the likes of Alfie Harrison and Leo Shahar also got on the scoresheet.

The win means that Newcastle’s under-21s have now qualified for the Premier League 2 play-offs, where they will have a chance at winning silverware.

Newcastle United wonderkid Sean Neave nominated for Premier League award

Youngster Sean Neave has been a regular feature in Newcastle’s matchday squads recently. The 17-year-old was even on the bench for the Carabao Cup final after impressing Howe in first-team training.

The attacker is yet to make his professional debut, but it could still be on its way before the end of the season if the time is right.

While he waits for his chance in the first team, Neave has been sensational with the under-21s, registering six goal contributions in his first four games. His fine form in March has led to him being nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month Award.

Neave scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win against Middlesbrough before scoring one and bagging two assists in a comeback win against Nottingham Forest last week.
