Newcastle United suddenly at risk of missing out on Everton player after development

Newcastle United’s striker search could soon take another hit.

The Magpies need additional cover for Alexander Isak, who is currently suffering from a groin problem. Isak could have surgery this summer to rectify the issue.

But with Callum Wilson set to leave and Will Osula not yet trusted, Newcastle United need reinforcements in attack.

That is why Newcastle are trying to sign Liam Delap. He is available for £30million, with Eddie Howe’s side challenging Manchester United for the 22-year-old’s signature.

Alternatively, Newcastle could utilise the free agent market and get greater value. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jonathan David are options, with their contracts at Everton and Lille expiring this summer.

But while Jonathan David is definitely becoming a free agent, it remains to be seen if Calvert-Lewin will follow suit.

Newcastle United target opens contract talks

Newcastle continue to be linked with Calvert-Lewin after almost signing him last summer.

Howe came agonisingly close to striking a deal for the Everton forward, only for the transfer to collapse.

There is now a chance that the Magpies could miss out again, as the Toffees aim to retain their number nine.

According to the i Paper, Everton are now in talks with Calvert-Lewin over signing a contract extension.

If the 28-year-old inks a new deal, Newcastle United can cross his name off their list of striker targets.

Newcastle United unlikely to sign Jonathan David

Everton are doing their best to ensure Calvert-Lewin does not become a free agent.

Over in France, Lille are not going to be able to do that with Jonathan David.

The Canadian forward is going to move clubs this summer, with Newcastle interested in David.

He would be a blockbuster addition to Eddie Howe’s squad, but a move to Tyneside is not on the horizon.

It was recently reported by the Telegraph that David is unlikely to end up at St James’ Park.
