Newcastle United may need to look at signing a new forward this summer.
It’s hard to imagine anyone ousting Alexander Isak from his regular starting berth at Newcastle United of course but Eddie Howe could do with more depth in that department.
Indeed, Callum Wilson could leave Newcastle this summer when his contract expires, while William Osula remains untested. With European football back on the calendar next season, the Newcastle United manager will need cover for his superstar Swede.
Naturally, plenty of names have been linked. Newcastle are reportedly interested in Atletico Madrid star Alexander Sorloth, although another big-name target has now confirmed he’s going to leave his current club.
Jonathan David took to social media platform Instagram to confirm he’d be leaving Lille as a free agent this summer. Newcastle have looked at signing David, who has scored 16 goals in 27 Ligue 1 starts this season.
Interestingly, Sven Botman reacted to the news that David is leaving.

Sven Botman reacts as Jonathan David confirms he’s leaving Lille
Botman played with David at Lille before the Dutchman joined Newcastle in the summer of 2022.
Newcastle paid around £35million for Botman, who had established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League before suffering with injuries.
The Toon star replied to David’s post on Instagram with a simple one-word message reading: “Player” alongside a love heart emoji.
Newcastle United boost after hint about Jonathan David’s next club
The Canada international will likely have a number of offers this summer. As a free agent to have scored goals in the Champions League, it’s hard to imagine he won’t be of interest to plenty of clubs.
Barcelona have been linked with David but it appears as if Newcastle still have at least some hope.

David reportedly wants a move to a Premier League club next, which should play into Newcastle’s favour.
Obviously, he could go elsewhere in England, but Newcastle would surely fancy their chances of attracting him.
Perhaps one day, Botman and David will be reunited…
