A Newcastle United star has publicly stated he is ‘ready’ after missing the 4-0 loss to Celtic on Saturday.

The dust has settled after a humiliating defeat at Celtic Park, but there is still so much to do before the start of the 2025/26 season.

Newcastle United want to be active in the transfer market to make up for deals they missed out on over the last 12 months. However, things have not exactly gone to plan so far. Newcastle confirmed the signing of Anthony Elanga for £55million, but have missed out on several deals in the process.

The transfer window still has over a month left, so there is still plenty of time to bring new players in, but Eddie Howe has publicly stated he expected more arrivals by now. The big story of the Celtic loss was that Alexander Isak was not in Newcastle’s matchday squad.

Howe decided to keep him out of the squad due to speculation around his future, though his inclusion may not have changed the end result of the game. Several other players missed the friendly clash at Celtic Park, including one star who has now stated that he is ready for the rest of pre-season.

Tino Livramento shares one-word Instagram post ahead of Newcastle United return

The likes of Joelinton and Lewis Hall were kept out of Newcastle’s squad on Saturday due to injury, but Tino Livramento is enjoying an extended break following his inclusion in the Under-21 European Championships.

Livramento helped England win back-to-back tournaments with his efforts in Slovakia and has since been taking some time away to recharge ahead of next season. Newcastle could have done with Livramento’s pace and ability on Saturday, as Kieran Trippier appeared to struggle with Celtic’s wingers throughout the first half.

The 22-year-old is set to be on the plane to Singapore and will likely feature against Arsenal on Sunday. Ahead of his return, Livramento shared a post on Instagram with the caption simply reading “ready”. Perhaps he is aware of the current discourse on Tyneside and offered fans a glimpse of promise ahead of the Asia trip.

Livramento was sensational for Newcastle last season, cementing his place as their first-choice right-back and even covering at left-back when Hall suffered a serious ankle injury.

Tino Livramento will have a huge role at Newcastle United next season

Next season is shaping up to be a very busy one for Newcastle. Champions League football is back and so are many exciting trips across Europe. Fans will hope more memories will be made, like Newcastle’s historic win against PSG in 2023.

However, Newcastle’s squad is not big enough to be competitive at this point. New signings will need to be made before there is more confidence within the fanbase.

Right-back is not a position which needs major improvement. Livramento is still young and is constantly improving, but Trippier’s future on Tyneside is in doubt, so he could move on before the summer is finished.

Elsewhere, Emil Krafth did not do anything to impress during the Celtic game and will likely be a squad player like he has been for the last few seasons. Livramento will undoubtedly be Newcastle’s first-choice right-back next season and will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders, with an expectation from the fans to perform.
