Thomas Tuchel needs to hear what UEFA have said about Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento now

Newcastle United star Tino Livramento has sent Thomas Tuchel a reminder of his quality after starring for the England U21s during their European Championship win.

Tuchel told Livramento to take “responsibility” for the Young Lions after he was surprisingly left out of the senior England squad for their games against Andorra and Senegal in June.

Livramento was coming off a fine season for Newcastle United and had made his Three Lions debut in November, so to see the likes of Kyle Walker selected over him was something of a shock.

Still, the 22-year-old responded in fine fashion. Livramento was brilliant as England won the U21s Euros final against Germany, and played a key role for Lee Carsley’s side throughout the tournament as a whole.

Tuchel rates Livramento highly but will no doubt be keen to read a report on his performances by the UEFA Technical Observer Group.

UEFA Technical Observer Group’s statement on Tino Livramento

The Newcastle defender was included in the Team of the Tournament for the U21 European Championship.

He was joined by England teammates Harvey Elliott, Elliot Anderson, James Beadle, Charlie Cresswell and James McAtee.

Of the Toon star’s performances, the UEFA Technical Observer Group said (via UEFA’s official website): “A powerful, athletic and technically strong full-back, he was an attacking threat from the off for England – his crosses leading to two goals against Czechia – and he also brought leadership as one of the senior figures in Lee Carsley’s team.”

Thomas Tuchel simply has to take Tino Livramento to the 2026 World Cup

It was brilliant to see Livramento play so well but, frankly, he probably shouldn’t have even been playing in the tournament.

Able to operate at both right back and left back, there was surely no good reason why he wasn’t involved with the senior England side.

There can be few better full backs than Livramento right now. He’s only just getting started at the elite level and Tuchel would be making a major mistake if he’s not included in the England squad who travel to the World Cup next summer.

Walker has been a fine servant for England over the years but few would doubt he’s suffered an alarming dip in form of late. Trent Alexander-Arnold is a brilliant player but concerns over his defensive ability remain, while Reece James is only just coming through the injury issues that have plagued him for years.

Tuchel needs to listen. Livramento has to go to the World Cup.
