Joelinton knows exactly what Anthony Elanga is going to bring to Newcastle United after his £55million arrival from Nottingham Forest.

It was announced last week that Newcastle have signed Elanga on a five-year deal, with the 23-year-old meeting his new teammates on Tyneside.

The likes of Will Osula and Joelinton have welcomed Elanga to Newcastle United, and now the Brazilian has spoken in more depth about the Magpies’ newest signing.

Joelinton is happy he is no longer playing against Anthony Elanga

Joelinton is back to full fitness and ready for pre-season, and is happy to suddenly have Elanga as a teammate.

During an interview with newcastleunited.com, the 28-year-old explained why he is so delighted to see Elanga arrive at St James’ Park.

“He’s a really good player with a lot of qualities,” Joelinton said.

“He’s very fast, can score or assist and has been tough to play against so I’m happy he’s now joined us!

“He will be very welcomed into the group and we will do everything to make sure he feels at home and comfortable so he can do what he has been doing for Nottingham Forest. I’m very happy he has signed and I wish him all the best.”

Elanga already has the respect of his Newcastle United teammates

We know Elanga is fast and can provide moments of quality in the final third. But another reason why Joelinton is happy to have the Swede in the Newcastle United squad is that it means he no longer has to play against him!

That is quite the compliment from Newcastle’s number seven. It sums up the level of respect that Elanga already has, as he arrives as one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.

Elanga has always played well against Newcastle, and those performances clearly caught the eye of Joelinton! Thankfully for the Brazil international, he no longer needs to worry about stopping him.

All signs point towards Elanga being an excellent signing by Newcastle. He is Premier League proven, and has even excelled against the Magpies. The Newcastle United players have seen first-hand how good Elanga is, and now get to call him their teammate.

He also has plenty of friends within the Newcastle United dressing room. Elanga is close friends with Osula, while he is international teammates with Alexander Isak and Emil Krafth. He also knows Sven Botman and Tino Livramento.

Those relationships will help Elanga quickly settle into life as a Toon player, as supporters await his potential debut on Saturday when Howe’s side face Celtic in a friendly.
