Newcastle United have announced the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, and the deal comes at the right time after a new club announcement.
Anthony Elanga becomes Newcastle United’s first major signing of the summer transfer window, and a welcome one after PSR caused the club to back out of several deals over the last 12 months.
Elanga is excited to work with Howe and to reunite with Sweden international teammate Alexander Isak and good friend William Osula. It looks like the deal has come at the perfect time for Newcastle, as their alternatives have decided to go elsewhere.
Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham. The winger was listed as an alternative to Elanga if the deal were to break down alongside Karim Adeyemi and Johan Bakayoko.
Nottingham Forest are now looking to sign Bakayoko, and it has just been confirmed that another player linked with a move to Tyneside has moved clubs for £16.5million.

Nicolas Kuhn completes £16.5m move to Como amid Newcastle United links
Before the end of the 2024/25 season, it was revealed that Newcastle were interested in Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn. The winger was enjoying a great start to the season in Scotland and had attracted interest from Howe and his recruitment team.
Reports suggested that Newcastle had sent scouts to watch Kuhn in the Champions League during a game against Bayern Munich. However, Kuhn’s form dropped off significantly towards the end of the season, causing some doubts over whether he would be the right fit for the club.
Chris Sutton said Kuhn was not ready for Newcastle, and that has been made apparent after his latest move. Celtic confirmed on Friday that Kuhn had completed a permanent move to Serie A side Como on a four-year deal worth around £16.5m.
A statement, written by Celtic on X read: “We can confirm that Nicolas Kuhn has today joined Italian side, Como. Everyone at #CelticFC thanks Nicolas for his contribution to the club and we wish him every success in the future. Thank you and good luck, Nicolas.”
Newcastle United could steal Como target after deal breaks down
While Como have signed a player liked by Newcastle, the Magpies could do the exact same to the Italian side if things go their way.
Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle are still big admirers of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw. The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Tyneside in 2024, but the deal broke down when Newcastle’s PSR concerns continued.
However, with Eddie Howe’s side in a much better place financially, they are free to spend this summer.
Milan had agreed a deal with Como for Thiaw, but the defender was reluctant to leave for a club with no European football. It has been confirmed that Como’s deal for Thiaw has broken down, leaving Newcastle able to pick up the pieces and try to make a move happen.
In the meantime, it is understood that Giorgio Scalvini is Newcastle’s top target at centre-back, so Thiaw will likely be the next option if they cannot get that deal over the line.
