Newcastle United have confirmed their first major signing of the summer transfer window with the arrival of Anthony Elanga.
It’s been a difficult start to the transfer window for Newcastle United, who have missed out on top targets like Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro and Matheus Cunha.
Fans had begun to grow restless over a lack of activity as Eddie Howe desperately needs to strengthen his squad ahead of Newcastle’s Champions League return.
Spanish youngster Antonio Cordero had been the only signing of the summer on a free transfer from Malaga, but that’s no longer the case following the signing of Anthony Elanga.
Newcastle have confirmed the capture of Elanga on Friday, 11th July, and here’s all the information you need to know about the transfer.
- Who is Anthony Elanga? Newcastle United’s brand new £55m winger

How much has Anthony Elanga cost Newcastle United?
After being unable to spend much of PIF’s vast riches over the last 18 months due to PSR, Newcastle have room to splash the cash this summer.
They’ve been eager to do so on a new forward and have finally managed to do so by spending £55m on Elanga.
It’s also understood that the fee could rise by £5m to a total of £60m if certain clauses are met.
Elanga becomes Newcastle’s joint-second most expensive signing of all time with the move, only sitting behind Alexander Isak and level with Sandro Tonali.
Anthony Elanga contract at Newcastle United
Newcastle have been coy in announcing the lengths of contracts they have players signed to in the past, and that has continued with Elanga. The club’s official announcement states that he has signed a ‘long-term deal’ with Eddie Howe’s side.
However, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Elanga has signed a five-year deal with the Magpies.
That means Elanga will stay at St James’ Park until 2030, taking him through the peak years of his career until he is 28-years-old.
