Senior Newcastle United scouts are now watching ‘breathtaking’ forward as new transfer target emerges

Newcastle United have long pursued the signing of a new right-winger.

Indeed, the club tried and failed to do so last summer. Newcastle failed in their attempts to sign Anthony Elanga on deadline day, leaving Eddie Howe light in that particular area.

Miguel Almiron is set to leave Newcastle, further limiting Howe’s options – albeit the Paraguay international has hardly featured this season.

Jacob Murphy has impressed for Newcastle this season but it’s not ridiculous to imagine the club being able to sign an upgrade on him at some point.

Naturally, plenty of names have been linked.

Bryan Mbeumo is Newcastle’s dream transfer target, although Brentford look set to keep the forward this month.

Now, a fresh name has emerged as a potential transfer target.

According to The Chronicle, senior Newcastle scouts have been sent to Celtic to keep an eye on winger, Nicolas Kuhn.

The 25-year-old joined the Glasgow giants from Rapid Wien last January and has been in fine form this season, scoring 16 goals while registering 12 assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.

Such has been the level of his form, pundit Marin Bartley hailed the German’s performance as “breathtaking.” (As per superscoreboard).

Still, Celtic are believed to be looking for at least £20million for the forward, who is not believed to be Newcastle’s leading target at this stage.

Newcastle unlikely to sign a winger during this transfer window

Sadly for Newcastle fans, a new winger may not be on the cards this month even in the event of Almiron’s seemingly likely departure.

Newcastle are unlikely to sign a direct replacement for Almiron this month, such are the PSR limitations in play.

While promising to see them scout north of the border – where the likes of Southampton have shopped successfully in the past – perhaps the idea of Kuhn joining soon seems remote.
