Anthony Elanga is a forward who Newcastle United signed from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2025.
Newcastle United’s 2025 summer transfer window didn’t get off to the rip-roaring start fans were hoping for, with the free signing of Antonio Cordero the only new addition for months.
It had been tough for Newcastle fans to see top targets like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo head elsewhere.
Eddie Howe was aiming to enhance his squad options ahead of a gruelling Champions League campaign and was particularly looking to bolster his attacking arsenal.
He finally got some success when Anthony Elanga was signed, and here is everything you need to know about him.

Who is Anthony Elanga?
The son of former footballer Joseph Elanga, Anthony Elanga was born in Sweden while his dad played for Malmo and has gone on to surpass his career.
After his family moved to Manchester, Elanga’s raw talent was spotted by Manchester United when he was just 12 years old and he quickly rose through the ranks.
He won the club’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2019-20 before being handed his senior debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in May 2021. In the next game, he scored his first senior goal.
Big things were expected of Elanga and he would become a first-team regular over the next two seasons, but after falling out of favour under Erik ten Hag and struggling to reach his potential, United cashed in.
Nottingham Forest paid £15m for the Swede in 2023 and it proved to be a bargain, with Elanga being one of their best players as they qualified for Europe in 2024-25. He scored 6 goals and set up another 12.
Now, they have made a massive profit on him as he has signed for Newcastle.
Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United transfer news
Elanga first emerged as a possible target for Newcastle in July 2024, before he even had his excellent season at the City Ground.
It didn’t appear he was initially in demand at St. James’ Park this summer, but with Newcastle struggling to sign Mbeumo, links with Elanga started to gather pace once again.
Newcastle made a £45m bid for Elanga on June 24, but it was rejected out of hand by Forest, who wanted to keep hold of their star winger.
Graeme Bailey exclusively told Geordie Boot Boys that Forest want over £60m for Elanga, which cast the move into doubt.
However, Newcastle returned with a £55m bid that could rise to £60m and that proved enough to get the deal done.
Anthony Elanga age
Elanga was born on April 27, 2002, in Hyllie, Malmo, Sweden. As of June 2025, he is 23 years old.
Though he has plenty of experience in the game, Elanga still has room to grow as a player and get even better.
Anthony Elanga height
Elanga stands at 5’10” tall.
That makes him the perfect height for the winger and helps him be absolutely rapid on the wing.
Anthony Elanga salary
According to SalarySport, Elanga earned £48,000 a week at Forest, about £2.5m a year.
That’s on the lower scale of Newcastle’s wage bill and he likely would have earned a pay rise, but it’s not yet clear how much he earns at Newcastle.
