Newcastle United have officially announced new plans for their pre-season, with another away trip on the cards.

The Magpies are looking to be as ready as they can be for the 2025/26 campaign off the back of what looks to be an immensely successful season.

In the 2024/25 campaign, Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup and overcame adversity at the beginning of the Premier League season. Champions League qualification could be just a couple of games away for Eddie Howe’s side. Qualification for Europe’s top competition would surely round off a memorable campaign.

With the season nearing its conclusion, club officials are now looking at what pre-season will look like for the Magpies. It has been confirmed that Newcastle will play Arsenal in Singapore this summer, with the game set to take place in the country’s 55,000-seater national stadium.

On Tuesday, it was then reported that Newcastle will face Celtic for the Adidas Trophy, the first game of its kind.

With another pre-season friendly locked in, Newcastle fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the announcement.

Newcastle United fans react to Celtic pre-season friendly announcement

It will be the first time Newcastle have played Celtic in Glasgow since 2004. The Hoops beat the Mapgies 2-1 on that occasion, so fans will be hoping for a much better result 21 years later.

Howe is pleased Newcastle will play Celtic in July, with the 47-year-old saying that it is a “great opportunity” to prepare for tougher opponents in Europe next season.

The Adidas Trophy means there could be some sort of financial incentive for both clubs by playing the game, but some Newcastle fans are far from pleased with the fixture announcement.

“This should go straight to general sale… yet again fans without STs miss out,” said one Newcastle supporter, while another added: “No one is purchasing a pre-season ticket if we don’t qualify for UCL.”

This Newcastle fan was far from pleased with the friendly’s prize, saying: “It’s all about sponsorship cups instead of competitive tournaments these days.”

“Need to win this, we will be the only club to ever hold all 3 of the big trophies at once. (Sela, Adidas and Carabao). More history to be made,” another fan jokingly said.

Another fan added: “Removed replays in FA Cup etc just so teams can do sponsorship ‘cup’ matches. Had nothing to do with’ too many games – then.”

Finally, this frustrated fan said: “Mark my words, Mitchell won’t bring a single player until August. We will play Burn Schar in that tournament too.”

Newcastle United fans could see new signings debut vs Celtic

As it stands, the trip to Glasgow will be Newcastle’s first pre-season game. In the meantime, it is believed that Newcastle will return to the Adidas training complex in Germany. The Magpies made the trip over to the state-of-the-art complex in 2024.

While the fan may not believe it, Mitchell wants Newcastle’s transfer business done early. The sporting director is set to embark on his first full summer transfer window after joining the club in July 2024 – there are big expectations from the fans.

Newcastle want to upgrade several positions this summer, including goalkeeper, centre-back and on the wing. With the fixture being in July, the transfer window will be open for over a month by the time the friendly comes around. There is a good chance that Howe will have new players at his disposal when the friendly comes around.

Earlier this year, reports suggested Newcastle wanted Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn. However, recent performances have led Chris Sutton to tell Newcastle not to sign Kuhn.
