Newcastle United have recently scouted a promising attacker, but former Premier League ace Chris Sutton has made a big claim about his current form.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell will be tasked with finding new players for Eddie Howe as they embark on another European campaign after their Carabao Cup win in March.
Newcastle United’s next transfer window could be ‘game-changing‘. That is the belief amongst the staff within the club, who are hoping the Magpies can qualify for the Champions League to attract more high-profile players to Tyneside.
Fans have already seen what Champions League football can do for the club. Sandro Tonali joined Newcastle off the back of a fantastic 2022/23 campaign, which saw them return to Europe’s top competition. The Italian has since established himself as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders, with clubs across Europe wishing they had him.
The summer transfer window is set to be a busy one for Mitchell, who has sent club scouts across the world to monitor transfer targets. However, Chris Sutton has told the Magpies they may want to steer away from one transfer target.

Chris Sutton on Newcastle United target Nicolas Kuhn
Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn enjoyed a great start to the season, scoring nine goals and bagging six assists in his first 22 league games.
The German’s form caught the eye of the Magpies, who are in desperate need of depth on the right side of attack. Newcastle sent scouts to watch Kuhn in the Champions League against Bayern Munich in February, where the 25-year-old impressed.
Kuhn, who is valued at around £20m, has experienced a major drop-off in form in recent months. Going on a run of just three goal involvements in 11 games. While his form took a major turn, Kuhn scored a brace in Celtic’s recent 5-0 win against Dundee United.
The bad run of form was noticed by Sutton, who spent six years at the Hoops. The 52-year-old made it clear what he thought of his chances of a future move on his current form.
“Nicolas Kuhn, his drop-off in form”, he said on the Warm-Up show.
“You know talk of Newcastle, who were impressed with him earlier on in the season.
“But personally, I think you have to show consistency all the way through the season.
“And that may have been a certain blot on his copybook.”
Injury to key Celtic man could see Nicolas Kuhn stay
While his form has not been the best in recent months, it is clear that Kuhn still has the quality to play in the Premier League. Fans will certainly hope that Eddie Howe can work his magic like he has on so many other players at Newcastle and develop Kuhn into a top-quality player who can score goals for fun.
Newcastle are in a strong position to spend this summer, much to the delight of fans who have been itching for new arrivals since the beginning of 2024.
While Kuhn remains a Newcastle target, a recent injury to a key Celtic player could see him forced to remain at the club past this summer.
It was recently announced that Jota has suffered a serious knee injury and faces at least six months on the sidelines. Kuhn is predominantly a right-winger, but he could be forced to change position if there is a depth issue.
Despite the setback, Newcastle could still go in for the 25-year-old this summer.
