Newcastle United fans are desperate for Alexander Isak to start against Wolves tonight.

The 25-year-old is on a hot streak at the moment, boasting 14 goals in his last 15 Newcastle United games.

Alexander Isak has scored in seven consecutive Premier League games, equalling the record set by Alan Shearer and Joe Willock. He can eclipse that duo with a goal against Wolves at St James’ Park tonight.

However, that will depend on whether or not he is fit enough to feature.

Alexander Isak’s hamstring problem

Isak scored in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup win over Arsenal, tormenting a club that are so desperate to sign him. But the Swedish striker also suffered a hamstring scare that night, which resulted in him being withdrawn early.

Newcastle rested Isak against Bromley, with Will Osula leading the line instead. The decision paid off, as Osula scored his first Newcastle United goal.

But Eddie Howe will want to welcome Isak back to his starting XI on Wednesday night, and spoke about his fitness during his pre-match press conference.

“He will be there or thereabouts,” Howe said.

“We haven’t seen him train yet, but fingers crossed he will be.”

Whether Alexander Isak will start against Wolves

Howe has his fingers crossed that Isak will be good to go against Wolves, and it sounds like that will be the case.

According to the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, Isak is expected to return to the Newcastle United starting XI on Wednesday night.

That is a major boost, because otherwise Anthony Gordon would have had to play through the middle. That would have caused issues down the line, as his direct replacement Harvey Barnes is injured. Therefore, Joelinton probably would have played on the left of attack and Howe would have to change his midfield three.

Fortunately, it looks like Isak will be fit to start.

Newcastle United must protect Isak

With Callum Wilson injured and Newcastle losing another attacker in Barnes, it is vital that the Magpies protect Isak.

They must do whatever it takes to keep him fit, especially with Howe’s side facing Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

In a perfect world, Newcastle can blow Wolves away early. That will allow Howe to rest his key players later in the game, which he was able to do during wins over Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Aston Villa.

Howe will be keen not to overexpose Isak, while he has the luxury of having Osula in reserve – a player who should be full of confidence after his goal on Sunday.
