Newcastle United are expected to sell their fringe players in the summer transfer window.
The Magpies are looking to make improvements to their squad ahead of a return to European football next season, but that will come with its consequences.
Longstanding players are expected to leave, including players like Sean Longstaff, even though he would help Newcastle United with their homegrown quota in Europe.
Elsewhere, the futures of players like Martin Dubravka are still unknown, despite the 36-year-old just signing a new deal which is set to keep him at the club until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
Sporting director Paul Mitchell is set to be put to work at Newcastle in what is his first full summer transfer window since joining in 2024. He must manage player arrivals, sales and contract negotiations ahead of next season, but there is confidence that he can use his experience to bring those ideal targets to Tyneside.
However, Newcastle have recently been rocked by a surprising update on the future of a player who should surely have a big future with the Magpies.

Newcastle United fans on Lewis Miley’s transfer interest
Although appearances have been limited, Lewis Miley has been brilliant for Newcastle this season, and he looks to have a bright future at the club.
At just 18, Miley has established himself as an incredibly handy replacement if any of Sandro Tonali, Joelinton or Bruno Guimaraes are unavailable.
However, football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has recently posted on X, stating that several clubs in the Premier League and Bundesliga have a strong interest in Miley, with the claim that a lack of game time may see him moved aside this summer.
In complete shock, Newcastle fans have reacted to the statement on the social media platform X.
“Considering we need a handful of homegrown players for champs league/etc anyway – can’t see a world in which this happens Only 18 years old, huge potential, and would get more minutes next season as we’re in 4 comps Price would need to be massive to pull him out the club imo.” said one fan, while another added: “We have a perfect mix of 3 midfielders for him to develope alongside and we’ll need depth next season. Lewis is fine just where he is.”
This fan highlighted Elliot Anderson’s Newcastle exit, saying: “Newcastle are who they are because they always have homegrown talent in the team like “Shearer” After Elliot Anderson’s sale I wouldn’t allow Lewis Miley to leave UNLESS the money is crazy good.”
“We can’t let this lad go.” said this concerned Newcastle supporter.
Another fan added: “After Anderson I don’t think we could go through another heartbreak. Eddie will sensibly ease him in vs. thrust him in at the deep end. He is just a teenager who is still learning/growing after a serious injury. No need to pressure his growth, we can keep hold of him.”
Finally, this fan said: “Nope, young & better than Longstaff, we struggled in CL last time because of injuries, we’re better off financially now & more so if we get it again & he’ll get game time in Europe. He hardly puts a foot wrong for a kid. Big future this lad.”
Newcastle United fans are getting deja vu with Lewis Miley speculation
Romano’s update has come as a big shock to Newcastle fans. For some, it is all to familiar to last season.
Newcastle sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh during the 2024 summer transfer window in order to avoid a PSR points deduction. Fans never got to see Minteh play in a Newcastle shirt, while Anderson was a local prospect who had broken into the starting XI during the 2022/23 campaign.
Anderson admitted he did not want to leave Newcastle, and the supporters are well aware of that.
Newcastle fans applauded Anderson at St James’ Park when Nottingham Forest played Newcastle in February. After the game, the young midfielder thanked fans for the applause.
During the Carabao Cup final, Anderson was spotted amongst the Newcastle fans at Wembley. Eddie Howe noticed him amidst the celebrations and gave him a wave.
Newcastle are aware they must keep hold of Miley this summer and even further beyond.
