Journalist Simon Zekaria has detailed what the Premier League will argue in next week’s CAT hearing, amid the ongoing Newcastle takeover saga.
The jurisdiction hearing is set to take place on September 29th, and fans will able to watch via a live-stream.
In this hearing, the Premier League will argue why the case shouldn’t go ahead, in an attempt to have it thrown out.
The CAT case is Mike Ashley’s second legal case against the Premier League, with arbitration set to take place in early 2022.

Ashley wants to resurrect the PCP Capital Partners takeover, after agreeing a deal in April 2021. It has recently been claimed that he is confident about selling the club in January.
How will the Premier League defend themselves?
In a series of Tweets, MLex reporter Simon Zekaria has outlined some of the points the Premier League will argue, as seen below.
There have been a lot of calls from the Newcastle side for transparency. Ashley issued a club statement, while Amanda Staveley contacted members of the government. She also spoke to the media about the need for transparency, while fans travelled to London in protest.
However, Zekaria claims that the Premier League don’t want transparency. They want things done in private, and will argue that Premier League clubs must do things this way due to membership rules.
It still begs the question: What do they have to hide?

Interestingly, Zekaria states that there are some details of the Saudi bid that the Premier League don’t want open to the public.
The situation is an absolute mess, and as always it is the fans who suffer. But when have they ever been considered?
Next week will certainly be interesting, as we reach the latest chapter of the never-ending Newcastle United takeover saga.
