Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron has officially signed a new contract with the club.

It has been announced that Almiron‘s new contract will keep him at St James’ Park until 2026, with the Paraguayan putting pen to paper on a three-and-a-half year deal.

It had been reported last year that the 29-year-old was in line for a new deal, and now that has become a reality during the buildup for the Carabao Cup final.

Almiron will go into the game at Wembley with his future resolved, and as the club’s top scorer. He has been outstanding this season, and has scored 10 goals so far.

He certainly deserves this new deal, and has worked incredibly hard to earn it. Miggy has been one of our standout players this season, with Eddie Howe taking him to a completely new level.

The speedster has added goals to his game, and his strikes are a big reason why we are doing so well. There have been some top class goals too, including his volley against Fulham and the neatly worked team goal away to Leicester.

His 10th goal came in a recent 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, and it would be fantastic if number 11 comes at Wembley on Sunday.

Newcastle players react as Miguel Almiron signs new Toon contract

Following the announcement, Almiron has taken to his official Instagram account to express his delight over the new deal.

He wrote: “Proud and happy to continue being part of this incredible club, where I will continue working hard to help my team and the club achieve all the proposed objectives. Now focused on the final on Sunday. Come on Newcastle!”

Almiron’s post about his new contract has prompted a plethora of replies from current and former teammates.

Jacob Murphy replied: “So deserved my bro.”

Emil Krafth wrote: “Well deserved.”

Florian Lejeune added: “Congratulations Miggy.”

There were also reactions from Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Paul Dummett and Harrison Ashby.

Allan Saint-Maximin also commented on the news, posting on his Instagram story: “So happy for you bro.”

Almiron is such a popular player. Fans love to support him, and players love to work alongside him. He massively deserves this new contract for his contributions this season, and hopefully he can continue to grow under the guidance of Howe.

He has saved his Toon career, as he had been starting to stagnate after his £21million arrival in 2019. The smile had started to disappear.

But it is back now, and it is even wider after signing a new contract to stay at St James’ Park.
