Miguel Almiron scored Newcastle United’s second goal against Fulham, and what a goal it was.
The Paraguayan linked up brilliantly with Bruno Guimaraes down the right, with the Brazilian dinking a ball over the top of the Fulham defence. In truth, it wasn’t the best pass the 24-year-old has ever played.
But then Almiron did the extraordinary. As the ball dropped out of the sky with snow on it, he watched it loop over his head and connected with an astounding volley.
Bernd Leno could do nothing, and the 28-year-old had his second goal of the season. His first came in the incredible 3-3 draw with Manchester City back in August.
It was a moment of magic from Almiron in the 33rd minute, and it was a goal that Newcastle needed. Eddie Howe’s side have played well this season, but have struggled for goals at times.

With Fulham down to 10 men early, the Magpies needed to make a statement and put Marco Silva’s side to the sword. And they have done exactly that.
Alan Shearer loved Miguel Almiron’s goal
There was shock when Almiron’s strike hit the back of the net, and it has received praise from club legend Alan Shearer.
The Match of the Day pundit reacted to the goal on Twitter.
He wrote: “Miigggggggyyyyy. What a goal man.”
That accurately sums up the Toon Army’s opinion on the goal. It was something out of nothing. As we said earlier, it wasn’t a brilliant ball from Bruno. But the strike was amazing. To take that on first time showed real bravery from Almiron – he could easily have made a mess of it and embarrassed himself.
But he was willing to take the audacious strike on and reaped the rewards.
It’s yet another brilliant goal scored by a Newcastle player this season. They are becoming a regular occurrence.
We have already seen Allan Saint-Maximin win a Premier League Goal of the Month competition. Meanwhile, we have seen stunning strikes from Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar too.
Now Almiron is getting in on the act, and his goal against Fulham should be remembered for a long time.
