Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
The Magpies are looking to bolster their attacking options in the summer amid fears that Alexander Isak could leave Newcastle United coupled with Callum Wilson’s contract limbo.
Matheus Cunha has enjoyed a fine season with Wolves so far, scoring 13 goals in the Premier League. His form means he has a number of suitors. Reports suggest Arsenal wanted to challenge Newcastle for Cunha after it was revealed that within a new contract signed in January Cunha has a £62.5m release clause.
However, recent events mean that Mikel Arteta is less fond of Cunha after the 25-year-old was shown a straight red card for violent conduct during their FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth. Cunha will miss the next three games, but there is a chance his actions could see him handed a longer ban.
With Newcastle firm contenders to land Cunha in the summer, the Brazilian has dropped a fresh hint over what he wants to do.

Matheus Cunha sends social media message to Joelinton
Joelinton missed all of February with a knee problem but returned to play a good chunk of Newcastle’s FA Cup loss to Brighton last Sunday. The Brazilian has had a good season, linking up with fellow Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes with Italian maestro Sandro Tonali playing in the deeper midfield role to allow the pair more freedom to move into channels and join the attacks.
The 28-year-old’s form was rewarded by Yellow and Green head coach Dorival Júnior who named Joelinton and Guimaraes in Brazil’s national team for the upcoming international games.
Upon the announcement, Joelinton took to Instagram to celebrate his return to the national side, saying: “Everything has its appointed time, and there is a time for every purpose under heaven. Very Happy and Proud to be able to represent my country once again.”
The post received a lot of love from Joelinton’s Brazilian counterparts, including Guimaraes’ wife Ana Lídia Martins Guimarães who said: “Worthy.”
Cunha also commented on the post, saying: “Joga muitooooo.” which translates to “play a lot.”

Newcastle United fans could see another target in action for England
Newcastle are expected to see both Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento included in Thomas Tuchel’s first Three Lions squad on March 14. Lewis Hall would have also been in contention to play but his ankle operation means he will now not be seen until next season.
Despite playing in the Championship, reports suggest that Tuchel could name James Trafford in the England squad as a reward for his exceptional form for Burnley this season. The 22-year-old has kept 24 clean sheets in the Championship this season and is one away from equalling the all-time record in the league.

Newcastle are big fans of Trafford who’s expected to cost around £30m, significantly more than the transfer fee the Magpies were quoted when they came close to signing him in 2024.
Other Newcastle targets who could be named include Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White who has previously played alongside Gordon for England’s under-21s.
