Who is Joelinton? A look at the life of Newcastle United’s Brazilian cult hero

Joelinton has been a fantastic servant for Newcastle United since his arrival.

But it hasn’t been all plain sailing for him at St James Park. Former manager Steve Bruce broke Newcastle United’s transfer record at the time for the Brazilian, securing his services for £40m, making him one of the most expensive players in the club’s history.

After a rocky first year, it looked to be money wasted. However, after some hard work from the coaching staff on the training ground to develop him in a new role, he’s now a fan favourite under Eddie Howe and is genuinely one of the first names on the Newcastle team sheet.

Joelinton height

Joelinton is approximately 6 feet 1 inch (185 cm) tall.

His physically imposing nature means he is one of the most boisterous players in Newcastle’s first-team squad.

Joelinton position

The Newcastle man is now primarily a central midfielder, but this wasn’t always the case as he used to be a forward.

After Howe took over as Newcastle United manager during the 2021–22 season, Joelinton was moved from a forward to a box-to-box central midfielder and has absolutely thrived in the role since.

What kit number is Joelinton?

Police arrested the Brazilian in Ponteland Road, Newcastle, at 01:20 GMT on 12 January. A breath test showed he had 43 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, well above the legal limit of 35.

He later took to Instagram to apologise to fans, evidently showing remorse for his actions.
