Newcastle United’s squad is massively depleted right now, but it looks like it at least won’t get any worse against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

It looks like the same side that lost 3-0 to Everton will take on Tottenham this weekend, with Eddie Howe seemingly unlikely to get any of his injured players back.

However, there is at least some good news regarding Jamaal Lascelles, who was forced off at Goodison Park and replaced by Emil Krafth due to injury.

After the game, Howe stated that he was unsure if the skipper would be available for Sunday’s game against Tottenham, but a new update from the Northern Echo offers Toon fans a positive update.

Jamaal Lascelles should be fit to face Tottenham on Sunday

According to the Northern Echo, Jamaal Lascelles should be available for this weekend’s game away to Tottenham Hotspur.

They state that he suffered a dead leg in the loss to Everton, but should be able to shake it off in time for the trip to the capital.

That is a big boost, as Newcastle do not have many other options at the back. Sven Botman is still injured but nearing a return, while Dan Burn is also absent.

If Lascelles is unavailable, it will mean either Emil Krafth or Paul Dummett coming into the side.

They are both more than capable, but it does provide some comfort that Lascelles is expected to be fit for this weekend’s game.

Lascelles has been in great form for Newcastle

The 30-year-old has been playing brilliantly as of late, rekindling his partnership with Fabian Schar in the absence of Botman.

Lascelles has excelled against elite opposition, particularly in both games against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Eddie Howe described him as ‘magnificent’ during the 4-1 win at St James’ Park, while he was just as impressive in the reverse fixture.

With Botman nearing a return, it is unclear how long Lascelles will remain in the Newcastle starting XI. But right now he is more than worthy of his place in the side, and it is excellent to read that he should be good to go against Spurs on Sunday.
