Eddie Howe loved what he saw from Lewis Miley during Newcastle United’s draw with Bournemouth.

The 19-year-old was one of seven changes to the Newcastle United starting XI, coming into midfield to play alongside Sandro Tonali.

Bruno Guimaraes was benched, with Howe putting his trust in a teenage sensation who is more than just a kid nowadays. The Newcastle United manager trusted Miley to play 90 minutes away from home in the Premier League ahead of his captain, which speaks volumes.

What is even more impressive is what Howe said about the Toon midfielder in the aftermath of the draw at the Vitality Stadium.

Eddie Howe calls Lewis Miley ‘mature’

Ahead of Newcastle against Bradford City in the Carabao Cup, Howe was asked to give his thoughts on Miley’s performance at the weekend.

The Toon boss was keen to praise Miley, describing his display as ‘mature’ on more than one occasion. That is extremely high praise given his age.

“I thought Lewy played really well [against Bournemouth],” he said.

“He gave a mature performance. It’s a tough away ground. They play with a lot of high pressure, so every time Lewy was receiving the ball he had to make quick and good decisions. Invariably, he does with the ball. He’s a really good distributor.

“I thought it was a mature performance. Physically, I thought he looked really good. No fatigue in his game. He played 90 minutes and I thought he looked strong.”

Lewis Miley should be happy Newcastle United did not loan him out

Geordie Boot Boys exclusively reported at the beginning of September that Miley wanted to go out on loan this season, with Ipswich Town showing an interest. However, Newcastle United opted against allowing him to spend the season in the Championship.

Understandably, Miley wants to play regular first-team football. That will not always come his way on Tyneside at the moment, with Bruno, Tonali and Joelinton ahead of him in the pecking order.

But Miley is going to get opportunities, as was the case on Sunday. He could also get another opportunity on Wednesday night, with Miley named in Geordie Boot Boyspredicted Newcastle XI to face Bradford City in the Carabao Cup.

Howe is going to continue putting his trust in Miley, who will continue to learn so much from training alongside superstars such as Bruno and Tonali. They will be helping him just as much as a loan spell would have. In fact, it could potentially help him even more.
